Call Ups for Costa Rica and Honduras

August 25th, 2009 | By: Al | 3 Comments »

Javier Aguirre has released the roster for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica and Honduras on September 5 and September 9.

It’s very similar to the roster against the United States earlier this month, but with Alberto Medina and Carlos Vela out due to injuries. Rafa Marquez is still injured as well and there is no point in calling him up since he’ll probably be recovered once these games take place.

Also returning to the team again are Néstor Calderón, Héctor Moreno and Pablo Barrera. Calderón is currently one of the top scorers in the Apertura, Moreno is starting with AZ Alkmaar, and Barrera is losing matches with Pumas (but he did do well in the Gold Cup).

I still don’t see how Nery Castillo is deserving of a call-up. He needs to get his shit together both at his club (he’s not playing regularly depite being loaned) and in the national team. He’s good, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t see how he has earned his place.

Also, I’m glad that Efrain Juarez, Israel Castro and the aforementioned Barrera will have the chance to be a part of a winning team again. Jeje.

Pretty good blog, glad I found it. Lots of good info (especially on mexicans abroad).

But first, Sinha is garbage, no way he ever deserves another call-up, he’s in the same league as Fernando Arce. No matter how good it LOOKS like they play (”he’s a fighter”, “he’s always hunting the ball”) they produce crap plays and would be great on the Mexican Olympic Diving Team.

2nd, true dat. Nery hasn’t demonstrated a goddamned thing. Hopefully Moreno gets some action on Wednesday.

Its great to try and retry players. When somebody is hot they’re hot! I say against Columbia Mexico test out some of the players that need some more experience. I say Use Nestor Calderon and lets see this young guy tear it up for mexico. He doesnt need to start but sub him in. Ive played with him before when he was a kid he is a phenom! Definately help out. Also mexico needs more finish so why not throw one of the leading scorers out there. Is there any way to check out the roster for the next game against columbia or el salvador.?
