Manchester United Sign Chicharito… Whaaat?!

chichaunited

Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez will be joining the likes of Rooney and Berbatov for Manchester United’s 2010/11 season. After a blazing hot start to the Clausura, and great performances for Mexico (4 appearances and 4 goals), Man United came knocking on Chivas’ door and now a deal has been reached for el Chicharo. Also, there will be a friendly between Chivas and United at the new Chivas stadium, with Chicharito playing one half with both teams.

This means a great deal for both Mexico and United. For Mexico, that’s another player going not only going to Europe, but joining one of England and the world’s top sides. It is also the first time that a Mexican will play for United. In United’s conquest to establish their brand all over the world (they already got most of Europe, Asia, and the United States) they’ll now have a strong following in Mexico which is a place that will buy a shit ton of their jerseys and will make them lots of money. Win win for both sides I guess.

Not only the Mexican Apertura, but his performance on current tournment with 11 goals in 13 matches and 4 goals on 4 games with the national team.

  • Obet

Whaaaaat?! I’m in a dream, or high? I don’t believe that

  • mario

I said the same thing….Coconut I thought he would move to a small team in Spain Like Guardado and Chupete did. Premier League is very physically. Hopefully, Chicaro adapts well. His Headers are very good and many english goals are off them. Wish him all the best.

  • Coconut

I have mixed feelings about this. I’m very proud of Chicharito, but at the same time i would have prefered to see him in a smaller club where it might be easier to get playing time. But I’m pretty stoked!

  • adan reyes

  • http://voyporustedes.blogspot.com Rich

This is terrible news. He will be wasted at Manchester United. Alex Ferguson is a terrible coach. He will have no idea how to make Chicharito into a great footballer.

He needed to play at Arsenal where they have many players similar to Javier and where Vela already plays or go to Spain.

He will not play any games. Bad for Chicharito and bad for Mexico.

  • http://hotmail Elitania

ESTOY CONTENTA POR CHICHARITO…PERO NO KIERO K SE VALLA DEL GUADALAJARA! OJALA REGRESE EN UN FUTURO PARA SEGUIR JUGANDO CON LAS CHIVAS Y METER MAS GOLES!!!!!!!

His play style would be great in MAN jus watch his highlights and goals.GOOD LUCK!!! WOOOOO

  • Sacramento

this message is for CArla I very much agree with you CHivas needed a star player to lift up the team an win another championship and with him gone all we have left is arellano(he gets injured to fast) and medina OMAR sucks now ugh o well

  • Bicente Fotz

Esto no hubiera pasado si Lopez Obrador fuera presidente jajajaja

THE BEST OF LUCK MY BABYPEA

  • Chiva

Its all business… now watch as Man U. have every Mexican buy a jersey visit old trafford etc… I am not saying the kid is not talented but Man U. can and should do much better considering the fact that Berbatov isnt doing so great. Its all economics. Once Mexicans buy enough jerseys they will get better talent. Dos Santos is better and didnt even make the cut with the Spurs.

  • http://voyporustedes.blogspot.com Rich

Chiva: “Once Mexicans buy enough jerseys they will get better talent:

That is exactly right Chiva. This is also why they bought Ji Sung Park so they would sell Jerseys in Asia.

Manchester United is £700m in debt so they will try anything to make money.

  • http://voyporustedes.blogspot.com Rich

Manchester United buy players from new markets simply for the shirt sales. Mexico has a big population and is an untapped market for British teams.

Manchester United bought Chinese player Dong Fangzhuo so all the Chinese fans would buy shirts. He played ONE game and they sold him.

  • omar bravo

    @Rich
yeah like united bought Renaldo and made him into the world player of the year? come on not every one can make it and that’s what matters, if it were for the shirts or business only don’t you think dong fengzhou would still hold a role in united? what about ji sung park? he is there isnt he cause he is valuable even now so stop your hating and be objective, football should unite us not divide us, you should be happy for united s unity futher more look at what theyr doing to mexico’s football by picking chicharito i agree there is a busines motive but as long as its a win win who cares infact that is how it should be as long as the game is not hurt.you say sir alex ferguson isnt a good manager and that you’d prefer wenger had javier? well my uninformed biased friend make good use of google and research on your facts before you post anything football related in that case

  • Jose

    Hey dont hate Appreciate!!

  • Danny

FOR SHIRT SALESS??? hahaha you guys are just Jealous, and hate the fact that Hernandez made it big so fast. You will see by this time next year he will be in the starting line up

  • http://voyporustedes.blogspot.com Rich

I’m simply saying Manchester United have a history of doing this. Alex Ferguson typically buys players that are established already if he wants them for his team..other plays he buys for business reasons. He is not as good a coach as Arsene Wenger. That is a fact.

I am biased of course as I am an Arsenal fan and I very much wanted Javier to come to Arsenal, but there is no denying Arsenal would have been a better club for him to come.

We have lots of young players (including Vela) that are coached and turned into world class players by Wenger. Ferguson has a very poor record in coaching players this way.

We will see, I hope Chicharito is a success because I have been telling everyone here how good he is, but I just think given how they operate this was a bad club for him to go to at this point in his career.

I don’t want to start an argument lol, I just want to see him realise his potential and be as good as I think he can be.

  • http://voyporustedes.blogspot.com Rich

    @Omar Bravo

By the way I’m not disputing Alex Ferguson has won more trophies than Arsene Wenger, lol that would be silly, but Arsene’s teams have been made up of players he has found around the world and coached into being world class players. Alex Ferguson has usually just bought established players for big money rather than find the raw talent to coach.

Anyway, I hope he plays a lot, I will love watching him play in England even if it is not for Arsenal.

  • Le Miserable

Rich, I think you are being very reductionist. It is more than clear that your position is extremely biased. Yes, it’s true that Man U’s purchase benefits the club economically, and it’s also true that Man U has bought bench players just to make money. It is important to understand, however, that since Man U is in great debt they can not afford to buy players like Karim Benzema. Now, Chicharito’s football is very similar to that of Karim, and he is capable of acquiring equal or better level of play that Benzema has. Of course, united is taking the risk of failing to exploit Chicarito’s football, but they would win enough money to buy another player. Manchester United’s bet on chicarito is a Win Win situation for the team, and a great opportunity for the player to become one of the world’s finest. Now, both Wenger and Ferguson are amazing coaches with amazing results and statistics. It is true that Arsenal does a better job with football “promises” ; however, United has also done a good job. Both Ronaldo and Nani were bought when they were only promises. By the way, Park is a good player and he deserves his spot in United as much as any other starting 11 player.

  • romy2mallari

ok even if its the shirts, even if it is only for money and a win/win situation for Manchester, it is only up to chicharito to show us what he is capable of

  • cesarin

I’m glad he got the big move. But I’m afraid that he’ll be another vela. Great promise but no playing time. You gotta be kidding about gio. He was good when at barca. Ever since he left there what has he done? He got moved to a lesser league and still nothing. Chicharito has got a knack for goals. Just hope he gets mins. Probably needs to bulk up over the summer. Epl is s much rougher league.

  • Phil

Rich, are you that biased towards arsenal that you are blinded by it?

‘Alex Ferguson is a terrible coach. He will have no idea how to make Chicharito into a great footballer’

    Really?
Do you remember a few years ago when Fergie bought a young Portuguese 18 year old from Sporting Clube de Portugal?

That boy was Christiano Ronaldo who is now one of the best footballers in the world. Ronaldo even admits that he would never have become the player he is at any other club than ManU.

‘He needed to play at Arsenal where they have many players similar to Javier and where Vela already plays or go to Spain.’

The problem with Arsenal is that they have too many young players and not enough experience. Young players do not learn much from other young players, they learn from the older ones who have experienced everything… like, for example, Giggs, Scholes and Berbatov.

Saying he won’t get played is also a stupid thing to say. Since you are so intent at looking at ManU’s history of signings, why don’t we look back at Fergie’s use of young players?

Did he not give players like Beckham the chance when they were young? Did he not have faith in a young team to win the treble in 1999? Did he not play Macheda at vital times last season, giving the boy two goals?

Before you say anything else, take a step back and think a bout what you are actually writing so you don’t sound so stupid.

  • http://voyporustedes.blogspot.com Rich

We’ll have to agree to disagree. Only time will tell.

  • osvald the chicharito`s fan

absolutly the chicharito is the best mexican player and is the ours diamond for mexico in south africa, only an team how manchester could be this contratation, good luck chicharito and thanks , very , very thanks for all you greats and beautyfull goals.

    Manu fergy good fact.

  • Al

Hey guys, a good article about how the Chicharito deal is a milestone for Mexican football:

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=768359&sec=england&cc=5901

  • Vic

It’s a little more than just selling jerseys:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/apr/09/sir-alex-ferguson-manchester-united-transfer

It’s not all up to Fergie. If the player wants to succeed he’ll make it happen…

  • christian

yo digo q es una buena oportunidad para q se muestre pero no mamen dejenlo jugar para q vean quien es

  • lalin

Chicharito was bound for stardom in europe that was not a surprise but to be a part of Man U is beyond expectations. Given the EPL is a very tough league where Borgehtti couldn’t even make it in on a sub-level team that is Bolton, i just hope El Chicharito gives it his all and succeeds to the point where he becomes synonymous with Manchester United. like how when you think of Wayne Rooney you think of Man U and when you think of man U you think of Rooney. Im happy for El Chicharito and happy for Mexico. its a chance to develop a top world class player.

  • Mike

    @Phil and Rich…
Phil, you forgot to mention that the veteran players (Scholes, Giggsy, Phil Neville, etc) were all YOUTH under Sir Alex. They got to be quality veterans thanks to his coaching. I am not saying that Sir Alex didn’t make any bad decisions in some signings, but a guy who brought in and coached Rooney, Giggs, Ince, Hughes, Beckham, Scholes, the Neville brothers, Solskjær, and Roy Keane, is NOT a shit coach.
Rich, you have got to get your FACTS straight. Both Arsene and Sir Alex are great coaches. Anyone who contends that does not know the facts.

  • AMY

yeah baby!!!little pea rocks!!! haha!!!tim howard was sold to the little everton and they are buying chicharito MEXICANS NOW TURNS MAN-U FANS!!!

  • http://voyporustedes.blogspot.com Rich

Mike, to be fair mate, it’s well understood that those players – Scholes, Giggs, etc, were coached by Brian Kidd.

Alex Ferguson was the team manager but the coaching on the training ground was done by Brian Kidd.

Alex Ferguson has always relied on coaches to help him. The current coaching staff at Man Utd is not as good as it was in the mid-1990s.

Again, we will have to see how Chicharito progresses. Good luck to him

  • http://www.musculos-con-pesas.com Gino

True, ManU wants more fans in AMerica an Mexico. But the kid is Good. He’s a bit like Carlos Tevez. Bervatov cost 35 million for nothing.. The kid’s got potential.

  • http://www.musculos-con-pesas.com Gino

oh yeah… Please DO NOT compare him with Gio dos santos. Dos santos SUCKS. Chicharito is like 100 times better. More power, more speed, more Hops, Better judgement, smarter, and most importantly more GOALSSS.

  • Daniela

i cant believe thats hes leavin mexico..i no thats iots better 4 his career..i guess i just got used 2 cing him with chivas..well all i wish him is good luck bcuz hes an amazing player nd he deserves the best bcuz he is the best..well all i can wish him is good luck nd cant w8 do c him in the world cup playin 4 mexico..VIVA MEXICO Y EL CHICHARO!!hope 2 c him back in chivas one day bcuz thats my team nd hes my guapito from the seleccion..danie:)

  • Ernie

i think this is a bad for chicharo..everyone is going crazy for a player who had one good season and scored a couple of goals against C-Level National teams. Mexican players have shown that they r very bi polar: they have a great couple of matches and then a whole row of bad ones. I think it would have been better if he would have stayed at least another season in chivas to prove that what he did this season wasnt just a fluke..THEN move to man u.. Still pretty cool that man u picked up a mexican player though :D

  • Coconut85

Sounds like Ernie is a jealous USMNT fan. Sorry Mexico has more potential than the USA.

  • jose

chicharito is gud but only for a whil;e if he keeps it up after the wrld cup and scores in the wrld cup in africa it means hes gud talent but he might just be on a temporary hot streak..

  • Ernie

heck no coconut! hahhah yo le voy al Tri! haha Thats exactly what i think Jose..this might just be a hot streak

  • Al

Hah daaamn Coconut, that’s a pretty low insult (calling somebody a USMNT fan)

  • Ernie

I know.. especially for a mexican fan…almost threw up

  • Bruno

I think Rich makes a good point regarding the advantage it would have been for “El Chicharo” of having Vela as a teammate at Arsenal, if he had signed with them instead of ManU. I think we fans focus so much on what happens in the pitch, that we tend to forget that in order to live up to their potential when going abroad, young players need to be able to adapt quickly to the foreign culture they are immersed in. Homesickness can be a big problem. Having a paisano, and even more, his old teammate from the U-17 squad there to help him adapt couldn’t have been bad.

That said, I think it’s excellent that he’s going to play in one of the best teams in the world, regardless of which one it turned out to be. I also think that playing in the EPL as opposed to another European league is specifically good for Mexican players, because there they’ll have to develop the physical side of their game, which is something in which Mexican players have traditionally been at a disadvantage. Yeah, he’ll probably have to bulk up (hopefully not with steroids, :-) ) somewhat, but I’m sure with the right coaching and guidance he’ll be able to not just cope but flourish. I just hope all this doesn’t distract him during the WC and instead, motivates him to prove ManU were right.

About the business side of the equation:
I’m sure that ManU jersey sales in Mexico will rise significantly because of this, but, take it from a Mexican, a lot of those shirts won’t be the real McCoy, so to speak. Enterprising paisanos in Tepito and elsewhere have a knack for depriving the poor football teams and their partners in the apparel industry from the “hard earned” (read: low paid) profits accruing from their “made in Cambodia” shirts.

    Peace.
