American Jay Silverstein Buys Himself a Mexican Team
That’s right, for the low low price of $8.5 million dollars you too can have your own Mexican football team. At least that’s what Jay Silverstein paid for Los Tiburones de Veracruz, which might now be called “The Veracruz Sharks”.
The deal breaks down as follows:
- $3 million will go to the state of Veracruz in two $1.5 million payments.
- $5.5 millon will be used for the external and internal renovation of the stadium, Luis “Pirata” Fuente.
- Silverstein agrees not to move the team from Veracruz
- Jay will get the team who was relegated last season to the Primera ‘A’, as well as the team in the second and third divisions, and their training camp.
For his part Jay Silverstein says it is his goal to return his team to the Primera Division in a year’s time, pretty ambitious.
the state did authorize the deal and Jay has made the first payment to the state.

Dammit, I was gonna buy Veracruz after I had won the lottery and I was going to turn them into a Latin Real Madrid! I guess someone already beat me to it!

Also, do you have any news on a possible transfer for Ochoa? Bayern Munich seems like a good match, especially since Olie Kahn has just called it quits and Klinnsmann, having lived in California, should have some knowledge on Mexican players. Also, Klinnsmann’s assistant at Bayern is Mexican, so my money is on Ochoa going to Bayern Munich.

I’ve been trying to find any concrete proof that Bayern is interested in Memo, but while America is in Copa Libertadores that will be the only news.

this is just a payment trough investment directly to the team, they will be investing in the development of turism in veracruz, plus an investment in cultural and sport development in that city, making it a better investment center, this does not includes players. and having a team in 1″A” doesnot give you the right to be rightback in first division, this is a flip coin investment that will be mature around 3 or 4 years with more than 25 million dollars(costs)!!! there is also a salary gap that not many first division players are willing to accept. therefore is not as cheap as you see it. the size of the stadium is less than 27,000 people. the tickets cost around 4 dollars. that’s around 150,000 including the best seats per 17 games per year that’s around 2′000,000 only if they can convince the people to go see the games!!! this haven’t been autorized by veracruz state representatives. ambitious as silverstein anyone but realistic none.
