Mexicans in Europe 8/12-16/09
A new season is upon us, and although several leagues are up and running already we’re just beginning our coverage. We have some old faces, some new faces, and some that we’re not really sure of.
The Spanish league has yet to resume, but there is still some form of play going on there. Elsewhere, everyone’s teams looked to have a good weekend.
Spain
Rafael Marquez(Barcelona)-As well all know, Rafa is currently out injured. But, don’t fret. His estimated time out was about 10-15 days when he first diagnosed, meaning he should be making his way back soon for the start of La Liga.
Jonathan Dos Santos(Barcelona)- The younger Dos Santos was promoted to Barca’s first team so expect some cameos every once in a while thanks to Pep’s trust in the young ones. This weekend he made it onto the list for the Spanish Supercup clash against Athletic Bilbao. Unfortunately, Jonathan didn’t make it onto the field but saw Barca win 2-1 in the first leg.
Guillermo Franco(?)-His contract is up with Villarreal, and it seems like he does not want to join a team in Mexico. His plans are to continue in Europe, so we’ll leave him here until he finally resolves his case.
Andres Guardado(Deportivo La Coruna)- Depor lost the Carranza trophy 1-0 against Sevilla.
Hugo Sanchez(Almeria)- Hugo keeps on preparing for the preseason, and most recently lost to the second division team, Elche, 2-1.
England
Carlos Vela(Arsenal)-Vela was not called upon to help in Arsenal’s 6-1 thrashing of Everton in the first game of season for the Gunners.
Giovani Dos Santos(Tottenham)- Dos Santos seems to be repeating the same story from last season. Once more, Harry Rednapp didn’t call up Dos Santos’ services for the Spur’s 2-1 win over Liverpool. His performances have seemed to have caught the eye of Inter.
Germany
Ricardo Osorio(Vfb Suttgart)- Osorio did not play in Stuttgart’s 4-2 win over SC Freiburg.
Italy
Miguel Layun(Atalanta)- Did not play in Atalanta’s 1-0 win over Cesena in the Coppa Italia. He will be wearing the number 19 jersey.
Netherlands
Carlos Salcido(PSV)- Salcido played in PSV’s 4-3 win over Ajax, but was taken out of the game after being a contributing factor to several of the opposition’s goals.
Maza Rodriguez(PSV)-Maza replaced Salcido in the 4-3 win over Ajax.
Hector Moreno(AZ Alkaamar)- Moreno played all 90 mins in the 6-0 win over RKC Waalwijk.
Turkey
Antonio De Nigris(Ankaraspor)- His team is trying to reduce his salary.
Ukraine
Nery Castillo(Dnipro)-To be updated with his crazy antics.

Pic of Nery lol. Jonathan needs to be called up to play for Mexico and I need to see more of this Miguel. What position does he play?

From what I can remember Miguel Layun played midfielder for Veracruz. I’m sure he’ll do the same in Atalanta.

Yea that pic of Nery makes me laugh non-stop… somebody should hand him a pair of tweezers, it’s simple math, 2 is better than one…
Jonathan is a midfielder in the mold of Pirlo… hopefully

Aw…poor Nery that pic is horribleee… Carlos Vela should not play for arsenal he is not getting sufficient playing time that’s going to jeopardize him. Go to Spain Vela you’ll get more playing time. I would love to see Vela play along Guardado in depor coruna. Gio is a great soccer player I would also transfer to another team it is obvious the spur coach doesn’t want to play him. He deserves to be in another team. I would highly recommend him to play in Spain as well.

Vela definitely shouldn’t leave, Wenger knows how to help him grow so he’s at the perfect place.

I don’t think that Vela should move either. I think that he will do great things with Arsenal. He’s only been with the team for one year, in a new league and has great performances under his belt already. Wenger always seems to ease all the young players into action and it looks like that’s what he’s doing with Vela.
