Mexicans in Europe 4/26-27/08

April 27th, 2008 | By: Andrea | No Comments »

Europe MapIn general it did not seem like a good weekend with an overwhelming amount of losses.

Spain

Rafa Marquez(Barcelona)In a game where Barcelona seemed to feel like there was nothing more to play for Marquez earned a starting place along Puyol and played all 90 mins while earning a yellow during the 85th. He also let Deportivo score the 2nd goal when he failed to suitably mark his man who headed in the goal during the 76th min. Marquez won’t play on Tuesday’s Champions League Semi against Man U because of yellow card accumulation.

Giovanni Dos Santos(Barcelona)-Gio played all 90mins in Barcelona’s 0-2 loss to Deportivo where he had some difficulty. Dudu Aouate punch hit Gio as the both went for the ball and then he was kicked by the goalkeeper and had to be stretchered off but was able to come back and play. It seems that Gio will not play on Tuesday either although it is unclear why.

Guillermo Franco(Villarreal)-Villarreal won 1-0 against Betis preventing Real Madrid from winning the title this weekend. Franco did not play.

Carlos Vela(Osasuna)-Vela played all 90 mins in the Osasuna’s 0-3 loss to Valencia. Unfortunately the are only 3 points above the relegation zone and it will come down to the last few games to see if Vela’s Osasuna can stay up.

Andres Guardado(Deportivo La Coruna) Guardado’s Deportivo beat Marquez and Gio’s Barcelona 2-0 during the weekend. Of course, Guardado did not play due to the injury that will keep him out the rest of the season but his team is 3 points behind Sevilla who are in place for UEFA cup play. If they give the extra push Guardado might be playing in Europe competition next season.

Germany

Aaron Galindo(Eintracht Frankfurt)-Galindo was present all 90 mins in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund. The team is in 9th with 43 points.

Pavel Pardo(Stuttgart)-Stuttgart lost 4-1 to possible league winners Bayern Munich. It was a foul by Pardo on Klose that gave a away a free kick out 20 yards that eventually led to a goal. In the 63rd min Stuttgart had a similar chance which Pardo took making the ball go just a bit wide. Stuttgart are now in 6th with 48 points the same as the number 4 and 5 in the Bundesliga table and may have possible participation in the UEFA cup.

Ricardo Osorio(Stuttgart)-Osorio played all 90 mins and received a yellow card in the 69th min. This season has been mediocre in contrast to last season when Stuttgart won the Bundesliga title.

Holland

Carlos Salcido(PSV)-Current Champs.

Hector Moreno(AZ Alkmaar)-The season is now over.

England

Nery Castillo(Man City)-Manchester gave a 2-0 lead up against relegation battlers Fulham in an eventual 2-3 defeat. Castillo was named in the squad but remained on the bench the whole game. Since his arrival Castillo has only made 4 starts due to injury and his fitness.

Turkey

Antonio De Nigris(Ankaraspor)- Ankaraspor won 1-0 against G. Oftasspor this weekend. They are 12 in the Turkish league.

Managers

Javier Aguirre(Atletico Madrid)- Aguirre’s Atletico drew 1-1 against Getafe. They’re #4 in the league 2 points above Racing Santander and have high hopes for Champions League next season.
