After Double Injury Jaime Lozano Called to National Team

March 24th, 2008 | By: Alan | 4 Comments »

Jaime LozanoThe 28 year old Cruz Azul midfielder has been called up to the national team for the friendly against Ghana. Lozano is replacing Edgar Castillo who was replacing Carlos Vela.

Lozano has not been called to the national team since the 2007 Copa América. He will be joined by his Cruz Azul teammates Gerardo Torrado and Julio Cesar Domínguez Juárez.

Lozano has scored one goal in the current Mexican tournament.

I don’t think that Lozano will see much playing time, and I really don’t like the fact that Hugo sacrificed a forward position for the friendly. Miguel Sabah, also from Cruz Azul, is a good option at forward who has scored 6 goals in the current Mexican tournament and could have been a good option up top. Of the forwards that Hugo called for the national team two of them, Gio Dos Santos and Guillermo Franco, who might not even play due to injuries.

I guess only time will tell whether this will be Hugo’s last chance to decide the roster for the national team.

I seem to recall Lavolpe place Lozano behind Guardado, sortof as a defensive winger. wierd, but it will be interesting to see how Lozano is played, if at all.

Chivas has a Libertadores game on Thursday against Cucuta. The game against Ghana is only a friendly and Chivas need the results to continue in this tournament. For more games involving Mexican Teams check out the whole schedule here

Some say that the decision for Hugo to leave is already decided. This game is irrelevant.
