Quotes, Quotes, Quotes v.1
Spanish TV dubbed Wednesday’s match “The Cold War”.
Get it? Because it’s going to be very cold in Colombus and because we’re in a never-ending football war with the US. Clever
As we get closer to the day of the big match, we keep on getting more excited and our dislike (I’ll use that kind word for now) for the opponent intensifies.
To get the momentum going, I’m going to plaster this post with some quotes from our Mexican players. Nothing too controversial, just some good reading to do for the time being.
I’ll probably make more of these posts so everyone can get a good idea of what’s running through the minds of these players, who are bordering on desperation to defeat the Americans.
.
Aaron Galindo:
“The United States have big and strong players who are good in the air. One of the strengths of their team is their set pieces. We must concentrate and build up on that. We must defend well on set pieces because that’s where the team functions, a solid defense, and we have enough players to win the match”
“This is the first match of the Hexagonal and I think that the vibes within our team are great, and I think that the United States aren’t feeling as good as we are, therefore we’re playing to win.”
Vicente Matias Vuoso:
“The United States have the mental advantage, the ones that have more responsibility and pressure are us, I’m sure that they are the favorites, defeating Mexico to them is as important as it can get”
“With one-two’s we can cause damage, our game is based much on tactics, they’re strong but we have the superior technique.”
“Playing with all the bad luck and critiques that we’ve received until now, that makes me stronger, it makes me grow. The unfavorable circumstances will make a victory even better, I’m going to play and defend the Mexican shirt to death, hopefully there will be many Mexicans but there aren’t, it’s something that we must get used to”
Apparenly you’ve never visited the US, Matias.
Carlos Ochoa:
“We know that Mexico is the better team, we have a superior league, better players and all that’s left is to prove it on the pitch. It’s time to close ranks, Mexico has to play well because we do play well at home, but playing away is where it’s been difficult and especially at the United States where we can technically be the home team, but it shouldn’t matter, the match against the United States must be played well and won.
Nery “The Brow” Castillo:
“The only way to defeat them is to score goals and I think that February 11 is an ideal date to begin doing that.”
“What’s needed is support. We can’t think about changing managers. From outside, it’s easy to criticize either vocally or from a computer.”
“We need the support and nothing else, because when results aren’t achieved we have to push forward and try to motivate the team.”
Last but not least, Sinha:
“We can’t be afraid of playing football against a team that, from my point of view, is not better than the Mexican squad. We just need to focus on playing as we can, and leave everything else outside the pitch. To me, without a doubt, Mexico is much better, if we concentrate on playing well, if we leave all the negative factors aside, Mexico has that and more.”
“There’s too much noise for a team that’s not true. They might be favorites in the game due to playing at home, but for me, Mexico is better as a team.”
“We musn’t be obsessed with winning, we can’t stoop that low, we need the three points and we have to win them with calmness, tranquility and playing good football. We shouldn’t allow them more possession and we must be able to move. It’s a rival that is very dynamic and is disciplined on the pitch”
There’ll be more quotes to come.
Here are some pics of the team arriving in Colombus:

Hmm I would agree with them. Hopefully they will actually perform as they’re supposed to and win but the chances are not very high. Still, I’ll be wearing the Mexico jersey that day, proudly, and the day after as well, regardless of the result.

Stayed in their hotel in Columbus, OH they seemed worried about how they will be defeated by the US? At least that is what they said going up in the elevator.

I’m mexican-american but I root for Mexico in this situation. Just beat them already.
