Call Ups for Colombia (Jonathan dos Santos on the list!)

September 22nd, 2009 | By: Al | 7 Comments »

Javier Aguirre has released the roster for the upcoming friendly against Colombia on September 30th, taking place in Dallas, TX.

Once again, it’s another friendly composed of nothing but local players, another mickey mouse friendly to be exact. However, Aguirre is giving Jonathan Dos Santos his first call up and hopefully, his first cap. All that speculation of Jonathan playing for Spain must finally stop! This is enough reason to be excited for this game, if you ask me.

One of the biggest surprises on the list: Braulio Luna. He’s back under Aguirre again and will be counted on once again for this friendly. A few other surprises: Patricio Araujo, Paul Aguilar, Enrique Esqueda and Javier Hernandez. Also glad to see Omar Arellano back. I’m also hoping Nestor Calderon finally gets his chance to play with el Tri.

As usual, don’t expect the “real” version of Mexico to be playing, despite 4-5 first teamers probably taking part in the match. It’s just another chance to rake in some cash warm up before the rest of the qualifiers next month, and to see el Tri in America!

I’m excited that Chivas players are sort of a base for this game, although they haven’t been playing too well so we’ll see how that goes.

As for Jonathan Dos Santos…unfortunately this won’t cap him to Mexico since it’s not an official FIFA game so he can still jump ship. But hopefully this encourages him to pick Mexico.

I always assumed that Jona was getting Spanish citizenship because of his foreign spot in the barcelona team. Anyone have links/info about him wanting to “jump ships”? It would be a shame to lose him to Spain :(

Jona already said that since he was a little kid, his dreams have been to play with El Trí, alongside his brother Gio… There is absolutely nothing to worry about, he said his blood is Mexican.
