Mexicans In Europe 5/9-10/09
Spain
Rafael Marquez(Barcelona)- Barca advanced to the finals of the Champions League with a last grasp goal by Andres Iniesta, leaving Chelsea out on the away goals rule. They will now face Manchester United in the final in Rome on May 27th. Visca Barca! However, they had to postpone their title celebrations this weekend, as they drew 3-3 against Villarreal. Marquez’ surgery was a success.
Guillermo Franco(Villarreal)-Franco didn’t play in Villarreal’s 3-3 draw against Barcelona. Guille’s contract is up this season, and there have been rumors that Monterrey is interested in taking the player.
Andres Guardado(Deportivo)- Guardado played 84 mins against Recreativo Huelva in the 2-1 win. Depor is looking like a strong contender for a place in Europe next season.
Hugo Sanchez(Almeria)-Hugo’s Almeria keeps on climbing the table and sit in 9th place after a 3-1 win over Sporting Gijon.
England
Carlos Vela(Arsenal)- Arsenal crashed out of the competition with a 3-1 loss to Manchester United, during which Vela received about 10 mins of playing time. This week in general wasn’t good for the Gunners, losing to Chelsea 4-1 at the Emirates. Vela did not play.
Giovanni Dos Santos(Ipswich)- Gio’s campaign with Ipswich is over as the team did not make the promotion playoffs, and it remains to be seen what will happen to Dos Santos as he does not configure into Harry Rednapp’s plans at Tottenham.
Germany
Ricardo Osorio(Stuttgart)- Osorio has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Stuttgart made the Bundesliga title race a little more exciting beating Wolsburg 4-1 with goals from Mario Gomez.
Netherlands
Carlos Salcido(PSV)- Carlos Salcido played all 90 minutes in the 3-0 win over Willem II.
strong>Maza Rodriguez(PSV)- Maza did not play.
Hector Moreno(AZ Alkaamar)- Champions of the Eredivisie. Moreno is still recovering from injury, but his team beat Herenveen 3-1.
Turkey
Antonio De Nigris(Ankaragucu)- De Nigris played in his team’s 1-0 loss to Galatasaray for 10 mins.
Ukraine
Nery Castillo(Shakhtar)- Nery Castillo made it back into the team and played all of the second half. However, the 3-0 win over Kharkiv Kharkiv didn’t help as Dynamo Kiev have been crowned Champions.
