Injuries Hit The Mexico Squad

April 28th, 2009 | By: Andrea | 2 Comments »

Injures have hit the Mexico squad quite hard and today it culminated with an injury to Marquez during the Champions League clash against Chelsea. Now, Marquez will sit out the rest of the season, including the important games coming up such as Real Madrid and the second leg of the Champions League. He will undergo knee surgery, but will be out for the rest of the season. He was injured without contact while on the ball.

Ricardo Osorio has also undergone knee surgery to correct a knee injury that he’d picked up while on international duty. The Stuttgart player had repeatedly made his way on to the bench, but never went on the field because he wasn’t deemed fully fit. He will miss the rest of the season too.

And some good news. Carlos Vela was placed under quarantine by Arsenal management after receiving visitors from Mexico in the previous week. It was merely a precaution and he was given the all clear to participate in the game against Manchester United in the Champions League.

The question is:

Will Mexico qualify for the World Cup? I am 90% certain yes, but I was 100% certain before qualifying started.

Sven Goran Ericson was terrible for Mexico. Absolutely atrocious. I have never seen the US dominate Mexico in any game. The last game they played the US dominated Mexico and gave me hope that the US was truly getting better. Unfortunately that was not the case because it was a combination of SGE being a terrible coach for a team that must have individual technical skill as its back bone. Too much northern eurpean strategy for a team that is more possesion and finesse.

Then Mexico lost to some central american teams and the US tied Ecuador and once again the US took a few steps forward and almost the same amount backwards.

I don’t know why Javier is happy Rafa is hurt. He is a solid defender and has excellent euro experience. I think Mexico will play inspired football going forward and will destroy CONCACAF opponents besides the US…lol
