Mexico 4 – El Salvador 1: Off To World Cup We Go

October 11th, 2009 | By: Al | 12 Comments »

That’s it. We’re in. It took two years, three different coaches (four if you count Ramirez), a pool of about 50 different players, and lots of ups and downs to finally for Mexico to ultimately achieve the goal of landing their ticket to South Africa. And what better way than with a very convincing win [...]

Mexico 1 – Honduras 0: A Un Paso!

September 10th, 2009 | By: Al | 25 Comments »

On fire! This is our fourth consecutive win in World Cup qualifying and despite it not being the most exciting of games, the team still did the job and are now sitting pretty in second with two easy (?) games left to go. This is also the second time that we strip a team of [...]

World Cup? Yeah, why not?

Costa Rica 0 – Mexico 3
On paper, this was the hardest match that we would play in the entire hexagonal, even more difficult than the match against the United States. Costa Rica was in first place, demolished every team that travelled to the Saprissa (including the USA), and was at the top of the group [...]

The “A” Game

I’m waiting for the excuses to start rolling in. The altitude. The heat. The fouls. The midnight serenades. The Mexican food. The referee. Bob Bradley. “We didn’t really need to win that game.”
Yeah, well those arefactors but the US team wasn’t the only one that had to deal with those. How many players play in [...]

With 5 goals, Mexico won against the USA in the Gold Cup final to become the 2009 Champions. Five was the reoccurring number as this is also Mexico’s 5th Gold Cup.

Kicking and Kicking

As opposed to previous games involving Mexico, this one was finally interesting. In the 2nd game of the Gold Cup, Mexico met up with Panama in Houston, Texas to play a 1-1 draw. As they say, “Everything’s bigger in Texas.” The saying held true as the game exploded with red cards.

A Win, But Only Just

It was a game at the Azteca so everyone was pretty sure that Mexico was going to win the game against Trinidad and Tobago. They did win, but it was close. Everyone expected for Mexico to play a spectacular game, to have to score be 10-0.
Of course, with Mexico being Mexico, it wasn’t and [...]

Not Mexico’s Salvation

“Al mundial no vamos, pero a Mexico ganamos(To the World Cup we won’t go, but we’ll beat Mexico.”
That was El Salvador’s motto going into he game. Whether they will stay at home watching the World Cup from home on their TV’s, they’ve accomplished what they wanted for the night. Now, Mexico’s qualifying route gets [...]

Mexico… Playing As A Team?!

Mexico 5 – Bolivia 1
Before the match started, I told myself “Mexico better score at least four more goals than the opposition… or else”. Thanks for listening to my inner thoughts, Mexico!
If this game could be an consolation for all of the disappointment and worry that was bestowed upon the Mexican population after the USA [...]
