Mexicans In Europe 9/12-13/09
Coming back from the international break, many players were left off the team sheets and deemed too tired to participate in competitions…or they’re just Gio Dos Santos and Nery Castillo.

After a long week, the leagues will wind down to get ready for an international break.
In Spain, both Barca players traveled with the winning the European Super Cup.
England was quiet as the U-17 winners did not feature with their clubs.
And in the Netherlands someone scored a goal.
Across the rest of Europe [...]

The Spanish league has yet to resume, but there is still some form of play going on there. Elsewhere, [...]

Diego Maradona: The Middle Finger of God?
The video above (spotted on DT) is of Diego Maradona's press conference after his Argentina team beat Germany 1-0 in Munich. Don't worry if you no hablo español, because the real focus here is Maradona's body language. Is he just scratching a persistent itch? Or is he not so subtly [read more]
How to Say "World Cup" in 36 Languages
The World Cup is a global event. Every nation on earth watches, and talks about. Even if your nation isn't one of the lucky 32 that gets to compete, you're still oddly involved (speaking from personal experience there, unfortunately). Even non-football fans watch. Which is insane when you think about it.
But not everyone speaks English, so not everyone calls this tournament the World Cup. In French it's the Coupe du Monde. In German the Weltmeisterschaft. In Spanish the Copa do Mundo La Copa Mundial and in Italian the Coppa del Mondo Il Mondiale. And in Hindi it's विश्व कप, which I have no idea how to pronounce.
Below is a list of every translation I could find, from Afrikaans to Hebrew to Welsh... [read more]
Classic World Cup Commercials: Nike's The Wall.
It's very rare that I remember things from the...err...single digits. They were heady, heady times, and quite frankly I did a lot of things I'm not proud of. But given some of the commercials of the time, this one was positively brilliant. [read more]
Guus Hiddink: Football's Town Bicycle.
Forget John Terry, Vanessa Perroncel and Ashley Cole's little - or big - black book, Guus Hiddink is blowing their whoring ways out of the European water. He's never quite been a one-club man - frequent flier miles between Sydney and Eindhoven tell enough of a story - but Guus is entering into unchartered territories with his latest contract.
I mean country. [read more]

Leo Messi: The Hat-Trick Scoring UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador
Seems Leo Messi can do no wrong. On Friday he became a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, a role that will involve speaking out on behalf of impoverished children. That alone deserves a pat on the back. Then yesterday Messi scored a hat-trick for Barcelona as they beat third-place Valencia 3-0. An (almost?) ...
Beckham Severely Injured; Will Miss World Cup

VIDEO: "Ditewig's Blunder" and the 10 Second Goal
How is this for a laugher? The video is simply called "Blunder Ditewig." A better title would simply be unimaginable. Check out Ditewig's blunder, and keep this in mind; this same game opened up in the first ten seconds with a goal. Don't believe me? I have video evidence ...
POLL: Fernando Torres - Will He Stay Or Will He Go?

5 Things to Keep You Occupied if MLS Strikes

In case you missed it earlier this week, David Beckham sent quite the message in his return to Old Trafford. And he didn't even have to open his mouth; all he had to do was put on a scarf in the yellow-and-green stripes that symbolize the anti-Glazer movement -- ...
