The 3 cuts

May 12th, 2006 | By: John | 5 Comments »

Which are the 3 players that I would cut:

Israel Lopez
Rafael Garcia
Joel Huiqui

Which are the 3 players that I think are going to get cut

Gerardo Torrado
Jaime Lozano
Joel Huiqui

I personally think it would be a huge mistake to leave Torrado and Lozano off the squad. They are field-tippers, difference-makers, game-changers. They can play downhill. The other two are personal favorites who “fit the system”. This is the World Cup, not a sunday afternoon pick-up game.

For some reason, I think Lavolpe will not cut Torrado, just because he doesn’t want to have another round with the press, who would have a field day about that one.

Johh, why would you cut Huiqui? Mario Mendes in Germany over Huiqui?

Huiqui is great as a back up because besides the experience he will gain, in a pinch he can fill either 3-4 positions and do it well because of his height and mobility. You never know with injuries or card accumalations.

Mendes is a right carrilero, and with Castro being the only other option, he is on the team by default. I have thought about Maza as the cut, but you have convinced me in previous posts that his qualities outweight his liabilities. You do bring up a good point, though.

I just read in ovaciones that Lozano was crying after fielding questions from the press when he was met by his parents, after the game.

It seems to me he was already informed he was out. Seriously, after these two matches, I can see he has not been able to get back to that level of play he had when he was playing with Pumas. He played awful vs. Congo.

Because Huiqui and Israel Lopez didn’t even play in the two matches, it seems to me those will be the other two that will have to be cut.

Lavolpe had to cut 3 positions, not players, one was central defender, the choices were huiqui or suarez or rodriguez, i think huiqui was a good call by lavolpe, the other two had to be left midfielders or left carrilero, the choices were israel lopez a left midfielder, jaime lozano, who played as carrilero, but at friday played as left midfielder, obviosly the left carrilero position was for pineda and “consentido” guardado so lavolpe tried him as midfielder and honestly he played bad, but i think it was the pressure, i still think lozano can do whatever chiquis garcia do, thas my only objection to the cuts, lozano for chiquis garcia, but anyway they all are bench players
