Sinha may go under the knife
Antonio Naelson, better known to the world as Sinha, may undergo surgery to repair the meniscus cartilage in his right knee. He will be out of action for 3-6 weeks. The Toluca midfielder landed awkwardly after scoring last Saturday in his team’s loss to Monarcas. At first, the injury did not appear to be serious, but after further examination, it was determined that surgery may be required.
Needless to say, his world cup participation may be in doubt, and he has been replaced in the line up for tomorrow’s friendly with Ghana by Luis Alfonso Sandoval (Jaguares). Ricardo Lavolpe is on record as saying that attacking midfielder is where the Tri is thinnest, and if Sinha is unable to go to Germany, the onus falls on Luis Ernesto Perez, and apparently a player to be named (or naturalized) later.
Lucho has been called up regularly lately, and it appears as he is beginning to handle the added pressure of wearing the national team colors. Sandoval will earn his second cap after helping Chiapas reach the top of the table in the Clausura. He led his team with a brace in the 3-0 win over Pachuca last week.
Sinha’s injury is just the latest in a list of mounting casualties which includes Cuauhtemoc Blanco.

I hope he can play without surgery, lucho isn’t bad, but sinha has way more experience with the team, we’ll really be short if he’s out.

The naturalized Argentine’s goal more than likely sealed a roster spot, but also a starter’s slot as well. It’s in all the Mexican papers, so it must be true! The second half of last night’s game was shaped by the subs that Ricardo Lavolpe brought in. El Negro Sandoval, a late call-up for the injured sinha, made an impact, and was given the assist on Franco’s goal. [...]
