SI.com weighs in on cuts

May 12th, 2006 | By: John | 4 Comments »

Luis Bueno from SI.com gives his thoughts on the bubble players.

He shares some of the same sentiments we have expressed here on the blog, but he doesn’t go out on a limb to make any predictions on the three unfortunates.

The game tonight is at 9:00 PM CDT. Telemundo will be broadcasting live and will do the same when Mexico plays France in St. Denis.

I’m sorry to say the guy has absolutely no idea what he is talking about.

“How many players do you need on the right side”? We are THIN on the right side, for chrissakes!

Has the guy ever heard of the term winger or carrilero? He basically thinks Gringo Castro is actually a central defender, since he compares the guy with Salcido, Marquez and Osorio.

And about the “alternate team”. Has anyone told the guy that Carmona and Galindo have been suspended and their suspension will be lifted AFTER the World Cup?

I’m sorry, but after reading this article, I have to say I now know why most Americans do not get soccer. They are grossly misinformed by the media.

Imagine, Carmona and Galindo not suspended… they would surely have made it to the starting eleven… What kinda team would that one be? Ah, one can only wish…

Don’t forget Hugo Sanchez Guerrero as well. It is amazing that the defense is as stout as it is without those 3 key players.

Hard to imagine. Not so sure if the defense is not better off now. Sounds odd well, consider that Osorio, Huiqui, Carmona, and Galindo are basically Cruz Azul’s defense. Hardly known for being vaunted, in fact known for being pourous.

For some reason, the dudes they have now play well together as a unit and rarely allow more than 1 goal a game.

They have a good mix. Carmona’s pace and individual marking will be missed but somehow they get it done as a unit time and time again.
