¡Sí se Pudo!

Omar Bravo scores 2 goals, and Zinha adds a cracking clincher to get Mexico started on the right foot as they defeat Team Melli, 3-1.

Omar Bravo opened the scoring with a brilliant one-two set play combo with Guille Franco, and then made they play of the game as he headed the Iranina keeper’s clearance in the direction of Zinha, whose through pass left Bravo alone with the keeper. Bravo slotted home his second before Zinha iced the game with a superb header off Mario Mendez’ cross a few minutes later.

Mexico needed a victory over a dangerous Iran team, and they get the full 3 points with some goals in the bank. The real star of the day was my lovely wife, Kimberly, who made a dazzling array of antojitos for us to enjoy during the match. The carnitas were succulent, the beans delicious, the Modelos were ice cold, and the tortillas were steaming hot.

It’s now time for a celebratory tequila– Viva México!

me gusto el equipo. mario mendez did a good job. Zinha did well. Bravo…well BRAVO! WE could get a little more crisp on those touches..i think pardo needs to step it up..it wasn’t his best game…the defense seemed solid..osorio i think needs to play the ball a little faster..

is it true Salcido is getting offers? as is Oswaldo? why are the univision guys saying such things when they aren’t confirmed…i dont like stupid rumors like that..but anyway…viva mexico…Angola is next my friends…2-0..

Where are all the Zinha’s haters now!! Ja!Ja! I just loved the little man’s header… how ironic is it that the the little man was the one with the header and not Borgetti?! Speaking of Borgetti, what’s the status on him? I hope it is not a severe injury.
Hey Jack of the UK… I’d hardly call that game a demonstration of Mexico on its knees. Better get a good look at Poland, Sweden, and even your own team, England, as better examples of teams being brought to their knees. Mexico won 3-1. However, Iran did play a good game, but their errors did them in.
Vamos Mexico!!!

good effort from Iran. Playing for the tie was a bad idea. That never works out.

A pass into the next round for Mexico should be expected now.

The Iranian Team is just top notch. They gave our Mexican goalie their condolences and flowers in respect of his father. Also the Iranian team gave Mexico an art piece, I think this shows great caracter by Iran. Well done Iran, you played very well, you gave us a tought time but we had just a little more in the end. Lets continue on Mexico lets show Angola who we are!!!!!GOAL!!!

[I'm not sure why the stars & stripes show under my name when I'm in Mexico city??]
It was great to be here in the big city today, lots and lots of people me included wearing “la verde” and lots of us with flags at the Angel afterwards [by the way our famous monument is scafolded and covered from "tip to toe" under renovation], but nevertheless was the place for hundreds of chilangos to celebrate the great victory, bring on the Angolans next Friday, I can’t wait!

Congratulations to Mexico! I truly wish Iran’s idiot coach didn’t choose to play defensive in the second half. The first half was one hell of an entertaining game.

Good luck in the rest of the tournament!

It wwas not the coach. I think Karimi left injured, plus Mexico put better presence in the midfield with the 2 substitutions.

Also, as I stated before, your defense is not that good, and it showed.

Put you guys should not worry, the way Portugal played today, and given how good you can play (specially through the right side), you could give them a good scare and even win the match, so you have something to fight for when playing against Angola.

Hurricane Diablo,

demonstration of mexico on its knees is when a team like iran ties you, and you cannot do anything against them. only a defensive mistake gives you the 2-1. after that, demoralisation of iran helped the 3rd goal. On the otherhand, the 3rd goal has its merits, sinha is starting to look a bit confederations cup, and that is promising. I was truly deceived to see that the Mexico of Confederations Cup hasnt appeared. That display was beautiful football. Mexico Iran was a bad, really bad game. I fully support Mexico, but honestly after yesterday, cant see them in the last 8. I hope im wrong.

As for England, I agree with you. It is a team with great players, but the problem lies with the coach. He is an idiot.

Muchas Gracias [thanks] to the congratulations from the Iranians in the blog, you guys are a class act as showed by your goalie giving flowers to Oswaldo on behalf of the whole Iranian team after the national anthems yesterday.

Good luck in your next 2 games, maybe this result would give you an extra motivation to shock Portugal and then Angola? everthing could happen!

Yeah I got agree with Edu that the Iranian showed class i watched the game at a bar where there were some Iranians and they actually congratulate us that says a lot.
Now I’m just wondering where are all those Mexican haters that predicted Team Melli was going to beat us? I’m also glad Zihna proved us wrong who knows maybe Chiquis will be the next hero.
The first half of the game made me nervous Iran came up strong but our team show charaxter and proved they wanted the game more than Iran.Borgetti saaid he isn’t playing on Friday so its probably going to be Kiki vs Angola. The only player that really dissapointed me was Torrado I had full confidence in him and the only thing he did was get carded.
Got admit wasn’t our most impressive showing but a win is a win and we’ll take it.
Mexico Mexico Mexico!!!

I don’t think that Kikin will start. I think franco will go up and and have zhina take franco’s spot.

I’m happy with the win, in the WC it doesn’t matter how you win as long as you do!

Franco was a non-factor, he looks way too nervous out there.

Bravo deserves the goals, hopefully he’ll get 6 more!

Vamos muchachos!

I find it quite ironic that in this day and age were Iran is seen as this spooky country that wants to bomb other countries into oblivion, they show more class than their U.S. counterparts (specially Landon Donovan).

I agree with Rene, the Iranians showed a lot of class, when they gave the flowers to Oswaldo, for the loss of his father, I almost cried.

I actually did cry; i the end when OS was staring at the sky and you could see that he was crying, all of the player were around him congratulating him and loving on him. Wow it was amazing to see how united the team looked.

I also thought the iranians showed class. little things like that make you realize how the WC brings so much more than just a game. A relationship.

Do you think that could happen in any other world event?

The NBA playoffs? the NFL?
just today Ben rothelsberger from the pitsburg STL got injured on a mortorcycle accident. they interviewed some players and most said that he was dumb for riding without a helmet and even owning a motorcycle. I mean it’s obvious, BUT WHY SAY ON TV. people are so filled with hatred because of competition, and it;s not competition, it’s money. Sure these soccer stars make a lot, but i bet these stars would represent their countries if they had to PAY to participate…..

continuing from last comment…

You would never see a Shaq or a KObe paying to represent their countries. Soccer Players play for love and passion.

I love this time a year…..
