Sanchez wants to get rid of green jersey

September 15th, 2007 | By: Kevin Zelaya | 3 Comments »

The days of the historic green Mexcian National Team jersey might soon be over. The reason Hugo Sanchez said he wants to replace the green home jersey with a Real Madrid-like white jersey is to give his team more of a presence on the field. Maybe he also thinks wearing white jerseys will make it easier for his players to spot each other on the field.

I have mixed feelings about the change. The Mexican National Team has worn the green jersey in 10 of its 13 World Cup appearences, in its first 3 World Cups it wore a maroon colored jersey. It just wouldn´t be the same without the green. However its becoming more apparent that Sanchez wants to be more than just a trendsetter in changing uniform colors, he wants to be a winner. Sanchez´s ritualistic rants about winning the 2008 Olympics and the 2010 World Cup have set the bar high. That along with a change in attitude (the code of ethics), a winning mentality (rising stars Vela and Giovani) and a new look uniform might be just what Mexico needs.

Finally we got some renovations on the Jersey, I agree, green it’s not a very good color for our national team, it looks to dull and doesn’t impress me. Maybe with the new style of jersey and the white color with red and green uniform will help, especially that we are going into a new evolution of football style and players, why not do it now.

Forgot to add that Sanchez wants the change implemented by the end of this year or the beginning of next year.

Well I hope the new Jersey does bring a different impression not just to the players but in the Tournaments because sometimes our jersey does need a makeover.
