Sanchez heads back to Germany + World Cup, day 1

June 10th, 2006 | By: John | 24 Comments »

Oswaldo is on his way back to the world cup on a private plane. The journey began in Guadalajara, after funeral services for his fallen father. Sanchez is coming back to Germany with full intentions of taking the field on Sunday vs. Iran. I wonder if he kept on a german schedule so the jet lag won’t affect him as much. He is due to arrive early Saturday morning in Germany, so he will have plenty of time to rest up before the 6 PM kick off the next day in Nuremberg. I think he’ll play, and the players will feed off his energy.

I watched both games today — a few notes.

The ticos tried to hang on for dear life, and made the Germans sweat, but the host team looked like they installed a Gatlin gun on the Tico semi circle and fired away all game long. It was good to see Wanchope get a brace.

I find it odd that some consider the Ecuador victory an upset. I am not sure why, they clearly were the better team todsay in their match vs. Poland. The score was completely justified. It was god to see Tin get the icer at the end.

I’m glad to see that Oswaldo decided to return to play, this may turn out to be a great inspiration for the Tri on Sunday and beyond

I really don’t know why Poland was considered a team that had assured their spot in the second round (since most medias where saying that).

Ecuador is on the second round with Germany.

You take pride in beating teams that will be performing at a sub-optimal level because of untimely injuries? How cute.

Hope everyone has a great time tommorow! We should thank our lucky stars for having a weekend fixture – no need to call in sick at work!

Our team will come highly motivated tomorrow and beat Iran I see a 2-0 or a 3-1 but I’m sure we’ll win!!! they’ll rally around Oswaldo and be very united for the game.

It’s funny to me that Mexicans think they are going to win tomorrow…Can you please go try to beat U.S.A before you even talk smack, like you guys lost against U.S like Come on lol,And trust me you guys going to lose tomorrow or at best tie you know why???? cuz the World cup is not in Mexico this year where it seems Mexicans know how to ply football only. PEACE

OOHHHHHH VAlco, have nothing to say but to bring up a stupid loss to the US..

ok, well in your theory, the US is better than MExico because the last game they played, Us beat Mexico. So that means that since MEXICO beat Brazil last year, Mexico is better than Brazil..
So that means that we ar the number ONE TEAM..

sorry VALCO it does not work that way.
I really want you to come back to this blog tomorrow after we beat iran.

Hahahaha… nice logic Valco.

Does that mean that Jordan is a better team than yours? After all, they defeated you in the qualifiers. Or how that great power that is Qatar gave you a scare by scoring 2 goals against your powerful defense? How about that incredibly talented Bahrein team that tied with no goals against you?

That type of logic is rather silly.

All i have to say your Team is way too overrated adnit’s not going anywhere ,cuz it really hasn’t since last time which the wolrd cup was in Mexico. Iran is a underdog in this match and that’s exactly when you don’t want to play them when they are expected to lose, cuz they always win when they are not expected to do so, and always lose when they should close the deal like Jordan game and etc….About the D thing Iran has problem in D but i don’t think that should be a problem seeing that Mexico is having a hard time scoring anyways… See all tomrrow right here i hope you show your faces tho once iran wins 2-1

its easy for someone who lives in a country that didnt even come close to qualify for the world cup to critise the countrys that did.

mexico is gonna win, and if they dont, it wont make us love el tri any less.

im rooting for mexico and the US. i would be supporting canada, but i guess i can wait to support them in 2010,or maybe 2014,2018? when was the last time they went to a cup anyway?

This much is certain, Mexico is favorite but that doesn’t mean the underdog can’t upset. I expect the tri to win. But if Iran wins, I will definately root for them if they also advance to the second round and face the powerhouse teams.

Will be an exciting game.

So I’m wondering where everyone is meeting up to see the match? If in Los Angeles I hear that Chuys in Glendale is the place to be. Any other suggestions?

Mexico 3-1 over Iran.

Mexico is going to represent to the world what being ranked 4th in the world really means.

Mexico is representing from the Toltecas, Olmecas, Purepechas to the Mixtecs, Zapotecs and to the Mexican-Americans and Unites States Citizens that back Mexico and beyond. Todos unidos.

Viva Mexico y Viva el Futbol.

Sorry Iran, not this time. The 3 points belong to the Mexicanos.

I don’t think fair play will be an issue. Neither team is naive but too strong like Trinidad & Tobago, or too cynical and hiring thugs for defenders like Argentina (talking about Heinze and Coloccini, who usually do stealth, ninja-like kicks against their adversaries).

at last the best team will be winner and 3 points is for award!so hope to see a good game and (fair)play which is svery important!
well the percent of win for iran is less than 30% and for mexico is 70%! cuse of have more expriance in world cups! i think 14 time more than us! we have just 3 time!so in the page we cant give any chance to iran for winning!but we must know that everything can be possible!if anybody know what will happen there is nobody wana watching games!like yesterday (swede team or british team)that make everybody tired! so Mexico must makes it self ready for loosing 3 points againts iran :D
and louie OLD,INJURED players ar e yours :D !!
