Ramonicto nicked, Lozano subs in

May 12th, 2006 | By: John | 7 Comments »

Ramon Morales was injured during practice yesterday in preparation for tonight’s despedida del Azteca vs. Congo. Jaime Lozano is slated to to take his spot. But like we have said before, don’t beleive anything with La Volpe’s line ups until they are on the pitch. If Jimmy does get the start, I hope he buries at least one in the back of the net. He deserves to go to Germany.

If Lozano is playing like he played in the qualifiers, he deserves to go. If he plays like he played in the Confederations and beyond, then he is better off not going.

Agreed… He hasn’t regained the level he showed in the begining of the qualifiers… At least, I haven’t seen him in that level…

But if he does, then he must not only go to Germany, but be in the starting squad.

Lozano being cut? Disaster. Israel Lopez is a joke, and so is Mendes and Chiquis. They have no must have qualities either.

Those seem the most likely cuts. Of course, there is the cut-your own son-in-law factor.

Lavolpe has to see that Lozano can turn a game around with one cross or kick. Not too many guys on this team have that quality. Especially since they’ve omitted players known for that. After 2 months of traning Jimmy should be fine.

FYI-
The network that carries the game tonight, well their announcing crew is horrible.

After watching the game I think that:

a) The team looked better than against Venezuela. Made better team plays and used boths sides of the ball, instead of the left side only. They did however had times when they were not really trying hard and would let the people from Congo get to their area easily.

b) Torrado, Guardado, Gringo Castro, Bravo (in the 1st half), Pineda had a very good game.

c) Arellano, Lozano did not.

d) Maza again showed he needs something to boost his IQ. He would always chase the ball instead of moving forward to leave players on offside.

I think Chiquis, Huiqui and Israel are out.

Your assesment is flawed. Arellano made some dangerous runs and was unlucky to not finish.

Sinha looks awful, he was torn to shreds out there and his diminutive size failed him again, he looked like rag doll being tackled. Horrible finishing, boots it over the cross bar. Wow.

Maza was fine. Salcido and Osorio and Suarez were sloppy in their marking all night. The usually solid Salcido was flat out embarrassed by some guy nobody has ever heard of. Burned, one on one for half the field was taken out.

In the first half, before Maza saw the field by the way, Congo had some spectacular easy chances to score. One off a corner kick, the guy was wide open, horrible marking, horrible in the air defending.

The announcers are clueless and do not know what they are talking about.

The problem is, they didn’t try to center as much, nor did they have as much control over the ball in the second half to really test Maza, except for one header. Still, whenever Maza was supposed to step foward to make them fall into the Offisde trap, he never did. That is always the problem with him… he makes too many mental mistakes. And unlike Osorio, the few times he went forward he usually passed incorrectly, but that has always been a problem of his, and unless there is a corner kick or free kick, I would rather not see him go forward, because he sucks at it.

As for the rest of the defense, yes, they were pretty sloppy. I think there was too much overconfidence yesterday. I think it was a good thing that things happened the way they did so that the players remember that you don’t win just because you are 6th in the fifa ranking and a seeded country.
