Tena confirms interest from Stuttgart to get Pavel Pardo:

http://www.eluniversal.com.mx/mundial/4978.html

Unfortunately, the probability of him playing another world cup are next to nil… I just hope he lights it up there (if he does indeed get transefered) so that other players can have access to that market in the future

i think its cool that so many mexican players are getting a chance in europe due to the heart they showed in this cup.

ps…just wait til all the chicano kids from LA make it to the US national team, then that’ll be a real rivalry

I was actually thinking about that the other day while driving by some parks. If US soccer continues to grow I think there will be a huge Mexican-American influence on the teams. Its better for everyone, if the US keeps improving that will only make Mexico better too. Plus from just a fan’s perspective, it makes for a great rivalry.

It is almost certain now that Pavel Pardo will also be heading to Germany. It seems Stuttgart really loved the way Mexico played.

And now that we have practically 2 players in VfB Stuttgart, a little extra data about the team is appropriate:

Date of foundation: September 9, 1893

Club colors: white and red, with a red stripe on the chest.

Nickname: The reds

Founding member of the Bundesliga in 1963

Home ground is the Gottlieb Daimler Stadium (used in this world cup)

The team has been champion 4 times. The last one coming in 1992

Some famous players that were in that team: Carlos Dunga, Krasimir Balakov, Jurgen Klinsmann, Guido Buchwald and the current winger/defender Philipp Lamm

Position in the last local tournament: 5th place

Will play the UEFA cup next year

Has only been releated o the second dvision once, and it only lasted a year (back in the mid seventies).

All in all, Osorio and Pardo are landing in a serious team with serious aspirations, so this could not have worked better for them. It also helps that there are only 2 non-EU players on the team (2 brazilians), so they have a better chance of getting good playing time.

Good luck to them! Make us proud!

I disagree…

Bofo has the skills but not the will. Too inconsistent and lets his psyche get the best of him. We also need to remember that every time he played with the national team, he got lost in the match.

He is one of those players that plays one way with a professional team and another with the national team.

I think we’re going to have to wait awhile for the current generation of mexican-american and other latin american immigrants to influence US soccer. First and second generation immigrants tend to root for the “motherland” rather than their new adoptive countries.

Moreover, from what I understand, you have to be pretty well-off to make it to the elite of American soccer. Club teams are expensive and require lots of time and dedication; most poor immigrant familes can’t afford to pay club soccer dues or to travel to far-off tournaments every other week.

Didn’t they teach you at home that if you have nothing nice to say, to say nothing at all?

You should listen to your mom once in a while.

Xavi,

Yeah, Europe is for real players; that’s why Landon Donovan couldn’t even make it onto Bayern Leverkusen’s bench and had to return to MLS where he’d be coddled and treated like a superstar.

Until an American player wins a prestigious European league title, or the Champions League, then Americans have no real right to talk about Mexican players not making it in Europe.

Xavi, if you dislike Mexico so much why do feel the need to slum it in our dirty little blog. As for your comment about the US having 15 players in Europe…so what. Have any of them done anything really note worthy? We may not have a lot in Europe but we do have a legitimate star in Rafa. He’s a true champion that will be playing alongside the likes of Deco and Ronaldinho for the next few years. You’d think that with 15 players (wow!!!) the US would have had a better showing.

The truth is that the only reason there isn’t more Mexicans in Europe is because of money, not talent. Do you really think that MLS has better players than the Mexican league. The Mexican league pays very well. Why do you think there are so many Argentineans and Brazilians in Mexico. There is no financial reason to leave Mexico.

But, if it allows you to sleep better keep bashing our players.
