Player Profile: Jared Borgetti

The mexican “23″ is almost ready, we’ve already reviewed 2 defenders: Osorio and Marquez, who are not only going to be in the final list, but in the starting 11. Lavolpe has already made up his mind in 2 positions: Keepers and strikers. Sanchez, Corona and Ochoa being the goalies and Franco, Fonseca, Bravo and Borgetti being the forwards. After a bunch of speculation, with the Blanco incident, Bofo playing ok, and regular players like Marquez Lugo, Landín, Medina, Osorno, Ochoa, et all doing well in their tournaments, there was a big fight for the last spot in the attacking squad, wich eventually Omar Bravo won. But Borgetti, Franco and Fonseca had already a foot and a half in Germany.
Jared Francisco Borgetti Echavarría started his pro carrer in Atlas, his first season: 1994. After a good start he’s transfered to Santos in Winter of “96″. He did 16 seasons with “La laguna” in wich he won some championships and got recognition as a good striker and an excellent header. Starter in the mexican team and without a doubt the best header in mexican history he went to Corea-Japan (2002), and with a great performance scored one of the best goals in the tournament against Italy.
In 2004 he left Torreon and went back to his homestate to play with the Dorados of Sinaloa. He was only there for a year and left to play in Pachuca where he also anly played for one season. Cuauhtémoc Blanco said he needed a break so Borgetti got his place in wich he made a good impresion and became the top scorer in Mexican history.
He has become the first mexican player to play in the Premier League and he is now number 18 with the Bolton Wanderers. This will be his last world cup, and at 32 he will do a good job trying to find the net for the Aztecas.

im sorry but bergetti is overrated in my opinion mexico would be better off going with franco and fonseca in front i mean borgetti is a good header but thats all he dosent fight for the ball, he is not a good passer he is slow and when ever you put a big strong back on him he dissapears just like the u.s does with owunae or whatever his name is.i love borgetti but for the team mexico would do better with franco and fonseca its just that borgetti is past his prime and these 2 are in their prime right now

I don’t think he’s overrated, I mean he is the top scorer in Mexican history and if you ask any mexican who is the best striker in the country, only a small percent will say Borgetti. Bravo, Kikin, Franco, Bravo and even Bofo would be more popular and better rated.
But still we will need Borgetti against tall defenders and European teams. I think that Bravo and Kikin are also going to see some action.
I think the biggest mistake mexicans have made is that we’ve always said that Borgetti is past his prime.
He probably won’t be the top mexican scorer but he will definetly help.

Borgetti does have trouble with bigger backs, and that is why his experience in England has been good. He has gone up against stronger opposition, and he has even put on more muscle mass. Does he disappear? Sure, as does every striker. Strikiers are what they are. They could only touch the ball once a whole game, and it could be the goal to let you win 1-0.

While I don’t necessarily like Borgetti that much, I think he is the best choice Mexico has these days as a natural striker. He is stronger and taller than any of the other goalscorers, and perhaps the only choice when we need to place balls for a header.
The problem is he is too dependent pn whatever the midfield feeds him. He is very bad at creatin his own opportunities for a score.

Borgetti is undoubtedly the best scoring option mexico has and is unequivocally in the starting lineup. He has earned it and his experience in England is to be applauded because he could have rusted away as some forwards do in mexico, instead he chose to challenge himself and has tried to get better.
He looks mean and lean and looks like he is running a lot more. England has made him stronger physically and mentally. People should focus on what a nightmare he is to mark for any defender. He alone command 2-3 defenders in the box.
Will all respect to all other leagues out there but the English Premiere League is the most physically demanding, and to be the first mexican to ever try it says a lot about Borgetti. Very few mexican players could ever dream of hacking it in the EPL. Just imagine Bravo in EPL? What a joke.
