Oswaldo’s father passes away

Sad news to report. Felipe Sanchez, Oswaldo’s father passed away suddenly today. Mr. Sanchez was to leave tomorrow for Germany to watch his son play in the world cup. We offer our deepest sympathies to the Sanchez family.

Needless to say, Oswaldo’s participation for the match vs. Iran is in doubt.

This is absolutely tragic and devastating news for Oswaldo and his family.

Words cannot express my deepest sympathies.

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Oswaldo’s father and family. They were absolute class. Amazingly classy, humble people and Oswaldo’s and Mexico’s #1 Fans.

To Oswaldo and the Sanchez family: me and my family are behind you 1000% man, keep your head up and let’s do it for him because I know he what he wanted for you and his nation.

I will be praying for the family.

This will be a big blow to the Mexican side. However, it is very encouraging to read that all of the fans on this site are more concerned about the well being of the player and his family than they are about the impact it will have on the level of competition should he not return.

May Mr. Sanchez Rest in Peace.

Our condolences to Oswaldo, his family and all Mexicans.

Latest reports I have seen is that he is flying back tomorrow morning to Mexico, but will be back for Sunday’s opener.

It is a shame, not only because they were close, but because Sanchez was finally going to play in the World Cup and somewhere I heard/read that in many ways, he was proud his dad was finally going to see him compete in this tournament.

    This is really tragic.

Seeing it from the sport related side of things, it is a good thing that Mexico has 3 good goalkeepers. Granted, Oswaldo is irreplaceable just because of his leadership skills, but Corona and Ochoa are great keepers too.

At this point it seems to me that Oswaldo most likely will miss the match against Iran, because even if he makes it back, I don’t think he would be in the best mental condition to be in the game, plus like any decent human being, he would likely take his time giving his old man a proper goodbye. I don’t care if it is the World Cup, there are just certain things that are more important and family is one of them.

This is such a weird World Cup… so many good players are either playing hurt, will miss games or will miss the World Cup completely. I don’t recall a World Cup with the level of incidents to key players like this one has. Just yesterday, Cisse fractured his leg and will obviously be out and Ballack pulled his half calf and will be missing the first match.

Tragic stuff indeed. May Oswaldo find solace in the fact that his father raised him well.

Unfortunately, unlike most Iranian fans, you have no class.

This thread is about paying our respects to a great man and the father of our captain.

  • Kia

Man! I’m sorry guys about her (anahita) comment! Some poeple just don’t get it! If you go to most Iranian blogs (not even this one) we were all very sad to hear what happened to Oswaldo’s dad. I hope both Iran and Mexico will make it to the second round!
