Oswaldo en route to Guadalajara

June 8th, 2006 | By: John | 1 Comment »

As I write this, Oswaldo Sanchez is on a plane from Paris to Mexico City, where he will catch another flight to Guadalajara. The church service for his father is tonight, and the internment will be tomorrow morning. It is expected that Valdo will catch an early evening flight back to Europe, and rejoin the team on Saturday in Nuremberg. If he decides to come to back to the cup, which I think he will.

I applaud the players, coaches, FC Guadalajara, and the FEMEXFUT for their class in hadling this tragic turn of events. The players have come together, united in support of their devastated teammate. Femexfut has given Sanchez their unconiditional support, and Chivas are helping with the logistics and arrangements.

Jesus Corona practiced today in preparation to be the starting netminder on Sunday. It’s just a hunch, by I think Oswaldo will be between the pipes at 6 PM local time.

From what i’ve seen on one report, Jorge Campos traveled with him.

That is nice. They have been through thick and thin together since this is the third world cup they share, plus Campos can liven up an already somber situation.

My hunch on the matter is that Oswaldo will dedicate his performance in the World Cup to his dad and will be a beast that will not allow many goals in.

He will also find a good person to talk to in Borgetti, who lost his sister while playingin the Copa America
