Mexico got lucky with their group and I believe they will go through to the knockout stage. Again not because they are strong, but because Angola and Iran are some of the weakest teams ever to play in the world cup. After the group stage they will get back on a plane and leave Germany. And wait for another 4 years, qualify behind the States again, hoping they will get weak oponents in the group stage. Will that happen 4 years from now. Probably not. So what I’m saying this is the easiest world cup for Mexico. We’ll see if they take advantage of this.

Ouch! Lots of cold blooded predictions about the “Tri”.
Uncertainty can bring fear. Just because experts do not know much about Iran and Angola does not mean it spells doom.
Likewise, just because people do not know much about Mexican soccer does not mean they will exit early.
Mexico is close to pulling a “Turkey” or “Bulgaria” and might steamroll their way into the late stages or they could pull a “Mexico” and outplay their counterparts and lose in penalty kicks again.
That is what all the fuss and controversy is about regarding the team. Loads of talent, led by an egotistical chainsmoking zealot who might be “mad” enough to shock the world or he might hijack the hopes of people by driving them into the abyss with a first class ticket.
Believe this, after three solid world cup performances in a row Mexico is beyond fearing anybody.

Mmmm
I just don’t get it.
Certainly Mexico is not Brazil, but to called us lucky just because we are with Angola and Iran.
I mean the last two world cups we’ve been in groups of hell, and ended up with the first place, then played not so strong teams in the second rounda nd lose, like bulgary and USA.
Really, want to talk about luck, we had luck 4 years ago, we finished first in a group with croatia, Italy and Ecuador, and then went to face up our clients: USA. That was luck, we where all cheering and thanking god for that miracle, we where going to the quarterfinals against Germany!! but no USA did the unthinkable at that time.
We don’t have luck in this World Cup, we could face Argentina or Netherlands in the second Round, wich are 2 of the 6 best teams, then face off with England, and whoever rests from: Portugal, Netherlands and Argentina, just to play a semi with Brazil.
I think that’s not luck, that’s plain hard.
Mexico will not die in the first round, and we will play our best to bear whoever we can, to pull a “Mexico” and defeat the greatest.

I actually thought it was unlucky for Mexico to play the USA in 2002. At that time, Mexico could play with any team in the world cup and not feel any pressure, except for 1: the USA. Mexico could handle the pressure of playing the USA, but not handle the pressure of losing to the USA. They didn’t, and they lost.

Again I’m not sure that we might pull a “Turkey” or a “Bulgaria” just because our team has psyche problems in the big stage.Big-Baller is right though just because most people don’t know much about our league doesn’t mean it’s bad, afer all we pushed Argentinan and Brazilian teams to the brink in their stadiums and we were close to winning the Liberatadores Cup a couple years ago.As for the comments that we are going have problems scoring I doubt it, Franco and Borgetti are very decent strikers and we have a couple of players that are good shooters.I’m not getting carried away as saying that we’ll be world champions but I see potential on our team, what do you guys think? and the only reason we ain’t winning the whole thing is because Lavolpe(of all people!!) didn’t pick a single Aclantista!!!! lol

And then you woke up and realized it was all dream.
I agree with the fist round but Mexico is out on PKs in the second against Argentina. Typical WC for Mexico.

I say only that : Romanian people are with MEXICO at this worldcup … Mexico dosn;t have super players like : ronaldinho , kaka , adriano .. but they had a GREAT TEAM ( and this is the most important)
VAMOS MEXICO WIN THE WORLD CUP !!

Here is my prediction:
Mexico 2-2 Iran
Mexico 1-1 Angola
Mexico 1-3 Portugal
The Mexicans are heavily underestimating other teams. Some said that this group is “very easy”- that is the outcome of that attittude.

I think the team that’s underestimated here is Mexico. Jeje. ![]()

Actually, the coach is stressing that each game will be very difficult. He will be the first to say that overconfidence will not be tolerated. The talig heads in the media are the ones who are being overconfident.

Man whats with this Tricolor bashers? will probably wont win the whole thing but to say will leave after 3 matches and without scoring a goal might be a little extreme.Unfortunately I sense another exit in the second round….I really hope it doesn’t happen but until El Tri shows me that they can beat the big boys in a WC I’m not completely sold with the team…again I really hope I’m wrong and that on july 9 Rafa and the boys are picking the cup.

First Round:
Mexico 2 - 0 Iran
Mexico 3- 1 Angola
Portugal 1 - 2 Mexico
Mexico will undoubtledly finish first, Portugal may put up a decent fight and Iran may surprise, but it wont be enough to upset Mexico.
Next round, the best game matchup would desirably be argentina,
Mexico 2-1 Argentina
Quarter finals, not likely they play Germany, but possibly Sweden
Mexico 1-0 Sweden
Semi Finals
Mexico 2-1 Brazil
Finals
Best possible hope of a matchup, Germany and Mexico, that would be a sweet game.
Ideally Mexico 2-1 Germany

I guess we as fan, can afford to be overconfident, and put some preassure on the “muchachos” but they must stay concentrated and fight every match as it is, a world cup match.

Hi guys,
I’m from Portugal and I don’t see you team doing “so bad” as some of you write.
Massimo believes Angola and Iran are the weakest from the 32. I don’t.
A team that beats Brazil so frequently as Mexico and that has been present so often in the WC’s, must be taken seriously.
All the best - but I hope POR goes… ![]()

If there was such thing as fairness in the World of soccer, Mexico and Portugal should go to the second round.
Boa Sorte para sua seleção, Pedro. Eu gostari que ganharam a Angola e Iran, mais não a Mexico. ![]()

Why would fairness see Mexico and Portugal go to the second round?

Mexico is a good team and I believe that you all have the right to “dream” about winning the WC. But hopefully, the players wont be thinking that they can “walk over” Angola, Iran and Portugal or we might see the biggest upset of the WC(which is Mexico going home early).

In all fairness, the teams are probably going to play to their highest potential, thats what the world cup is about…mexico will make it through, the other teams will just have to make mexico step it up…

My prediction is:
Mexico 2 - 0 Iran
Mexico 2 - 1 Angola
Portugal 1 - 1 Mexico
Mexico will finish second in this group with 7 points, same as Portugal, but Portugal will have a better goal difference.
In the next round Mexico will meet Argentina and will win 2 - 1 in a historic match.
In quartefinals, Mexico will face Germany, as in 1986 and will overcome history to defeat Germany 2 - 0 in their own World Cup (as they did in 1986).
In semifinals, Mexico will play France, with an inspired Zidane and Henry who will combine to defeat Mexico 2 - 0 in a disapointing match for Mexico.
Finally, in the match for the 3rd and 4th place, Mexico will face England, tie, and lose in penalty kicks 4-2(as always).
This might be a bit optimistic, but I feel Mexico has the best team in years, and this is the time to make history.
