Mexico Vs Paraguay Preview facts
As we all know Mexico will be playing Paraguay this Wednesday, March 29th. So how well has Mexico done against Paraguay?
These teams have faced off 11 times, 5 of wich have ended on ties, with each team dividing 3 wins.
They tied on their only match on a World Cup on 1986 (Mexico) 1-1 on the first round with a goal by Luis Flores
Paraguay has a good relationship with Mexican Soccer, since Dennis Caniza (Cruz Azul), Nelson Cuevas(Pachuca) and Salvador Cabañas (Chiapas) play in Mexico.
Salvador Cabañas is the leading striker in Mexicos League with 8 goals.
Nelson Cuevas is the leading striker in Pachuca with 5 goals, tied with Landin (Mexico) and Nuñez (Paraguay)
The 3 teams in wich these players play are the top 3 in the Clausura 2006 tournament 1. Chiapas 2. Pachuca 3. Cruz Azul
José Saturnino Cardozo, from Paraguay who wasn’t called for this friendly, has been one of the best players Mexico’s League has seen, he played in Toluca, where he is considered an Idol, and an Icon in Tolucan Football.
Claudio Suarez will break most caps record with his national teams, again!!
John has done a great job writing on this friendly matchup, you can check both squads on his posts.
As you can see this will be a great and very important game for both squads, since it could break a tie on wins between both rivals, and it will be the last game for Mexico before the final squad is named just days after this game. I strongly recomend you see this game Wednesday 29th at 8:00 pm (Mexico City time) 9:00 (ET).

I remember that world cup game well. Mexico had a chance to win late in the second half with a spot kick. Hugol’s kick was stopped by the “gato” Hernandez. As it turns out, it didn’t hurt mexico because they went through to the next round in 1st place. Paraguay squeezed into the knockouts as one the 3rd place teams but got bounced by England in the Azteca.
