Mexico vs. Ghana — 1st half

March 2nd, 2006 | By: John | 2 Comments »

I am stuck in Lubbock, Telemundo has decided to run the game on tape delay, and did I mention that I am stuck in Lubbock? What do I take away from a pretty listless first half? Mexico is a completely different team with Ricardo Osorio in the line-up. He locks up the backline. The Rafa-Salcido-Osorio line should be airtight come June. Best of all, there’ll be no need for the Maza.
The tryouts for Gringo Castro and Mario Perez had their moments, but it’s still not going to make me forget about Jimmy Lozano as the best option on the left. The right side is still up for debate. Jared had the best scoring opportunity, but was turned away by the keeper. Oswaldo Sanchez did a good job on Ghana’s only chance at goal, forcing Elvis Hammond to shoot wide.
I have to admit, this is the first time I have seen Ghana play, and it reminded me of watching NFL preseason: they didn’t seem to want to show anything.
I know it’s hard to be sharp with only one day of practice, but Mexico has looked sharper than they did vs. Korea. Let’s see who Lavolpe brings on for the 2nd half.
