Mexico slips in FIFA Rankings

March 15th, 2006 | By: John | 2 Comments »

Mexico fell one spot to #7 in the latest round of FIFA rankings. Does anyone know what purpose the FIFA rankings serve other than to wrankle the nerves of Enlgland, Italy, and France fans who are actually ranked lower than Mexico?
So for those keeping score at home, Group D looks like this:
Mexico–7 (6)
Iran–19 (22)
Angola–60 (60)
Portugal — 10 (10)
I invite you to justify Mexico’s lofty ranking, or give me your reasons why they shouldn’t be held in such high regard. Personally, I think Mexico is driving in the neighboorhood of the elite teams looking for property, their credit rating is unusually high, but they don’t have enough for a down payment… yet. They are looking for a big payoff once their major invetments mature in June.

Man, loved the analogy. I’m Mexican and totally agree with the notion that Mexico is growing as a football powerhouse, buy we are not quite there yet.

I agree. I dont like being considered the number 4,5,6 or 7th seed on the rankings. We have been in that place for the last 4 years and we have narly proven it on the World cup, I think it puts more preassure on our teams that it does on Italy or France. Because I would love to see Mexico as a dark horse, we wouldnt be considered one if we are ranked on the top 8 teams.

Although I dont think Czech Republic is #2 and that USA or Spain should be in the top ten. So I recomend all of you to not see those rankings :)

I PROPOSE WE MAKE OUR OWN RANKINGS, WHO’S WITH ME???
