Mexico Interested in Bringing in another Hired Gun
There’s controversy brewing in Mexico where national team coach Ricardo La Volpe is keen on having Argentine-born midfielder Walter Gaitan on his team this summer in Germany.
If Gaitan ends up on the roster for the Tricolores he will be the third naturalized player on the team, a fact that isn’t sitting too well with many in Mexico.
La Volpe likes the goal scoring potential of Gaitan, but I really question whether he should make this move. Not because I think it is wrong for teams to utilize naturalized players (although it is a bit sketchy), but rather because he already has a solid midfielder in Cuauhtemoc Blanco.
While he is prone to picking up cards and has never been a personal favorite of mine, Blanco does have talent. I don’t see how Gaitan, a player who wouldn’t come close to making Argentina’s team, could add more value. If anything, his presence will be a distraction and could create an unnecessary riff on the team.

i agree, though Cuactemoc plays for america, my team chivas rival. It is clear that he is a very talented player that deserves to go to the worl cup. after all it is a mexico’s finest team. its nothing against gaitan, but i think that mexico’s actual mexican players deserve their chance to play for their country

It was just a matter of time before Blanco was called, I think, kikin and Borgetti just were not enough up front, having Blanco, Pardo, and Morales all on the field is a great team, we could make a good showing this WC. Eventhough, every team that makes it to the cup is fairly good, I think the game that is a must win is Iran, Angola can be a tie, and we wouldn’t have to depend on beating Portugal to make it to the next round, I think 4pts gets in. my two!

I think that having Gaitan in the team would be a really good idea. He did tie for 1st in goals made in the mexican league and we can’t be sure that any of the other guys won’t get hurt. I would care more about talent than nationality.
