Mexico 2, New Zealand 0: Mmmmmm, Kiwis

Chicharito Hernandez

The goals didn’t flow in right away like in the game against Bolivia, but the young Mexican players were able to get it done with two amazing goals by ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez and Carlos Vela.

Mexico had some difficulty with New Zealand in the beginning and the cross bar helped maintain the score level during the first half.

For the European based players, this was their only opportunity to make their case for inclusion in the final squad.

After the opening header by Hernandez, Mexico had an easier time with the second goal arriving only minutes later.

Starting XI:

Michel
Salcido, Osorio, Marquez, Juarez
Guardado, Jonathan, Torrado, Giovani
Blanco, De Nigris.

Blanco and De Nigris disappointed at top once again. They didn’t provide too much and the results of them being taken off were noticed immediately. Poor Cuauh’s levels have gone down during his time at Veracruz and he spent most of his time on the ground. De Nigris has been injured through his time with the team, and he revealed that he played through ankle pain against New Zealand. Even though this may have hindered his performance, it’s also shown that there are other players who are more than capable to take on the responsibility.

Goals: Chicharito 53′, Carlos Vela 57′

Maza, Moreno, Vela, Hernandez, Luna and Castro[the latter two in deeper stages of the game] made their way onto the field in the second half and the impact was immediately noticeable. The goals came quickly and it showcased Mexico’s strong youth contingent. All of the younger players had their own special moments in the game from Hernandez scoring his third goal in two games for Mexico to Jonathan’s rocket hitting the cross bar earlier in the game.

If you enjoyed Mexico’s performance in the new black jerseys, you can get one too! You may not have the same scoring ability as ‘Chicharito,’ but at least you’ll sort-of look like him.

Pretty good game for Mexico. The game was good for the players because the Kiwis are the type of team that give Mexico problem. Big strong teams. Balls in the air and hard tackling by bigger guys was what the team needed and I liked that the ref let them play that way because that is what the team needed.

Blanco just looks bad. I think this calls for Zihna to be giving a shot. Michel looked a bit nervous and was not his best game but I dont think he played him self out of being on the roster. Luna was not great either but I dont think he played himself out of a roster spot either.

As a Mexican fan I’m really happy with how deep and strong our D will be this summer. Lots of flexablity in the back which is great. It was good seeing Marquez play a bit of midfield.

I agree Ivan, Blanco looked slow, in a fast paced game. The kiwis D was tough at first and physical, things had to be quick and cuauh couldnt handle it.

Michel looked bad in spots, out of place. I dont know if he wasnt taking it seriously, he didnt get challenged.

Good showing of youth out there, but we need to be tested even more vs tuogher teams.

I really like that picture of Chicharito, looks bad ass.

I guess Vela got injured in the final minutes of the game? i didnt realize it until i read it on goal.com

I was really excited with the way JDS played, it would have been epic if he made that long range shot.

Games coming thick and fast now for Arsenal. Hopefully Carlos Vela will feature more often and stay injury free.

Aaron Ramsey is the usual cover for Captain Cesc Fabregas in midfield, but has recently suffered a terrible injury so perhaps Carlos will now deputise for Cesc.

Vela looks such a great player, but Arsenal have many great players in his position at the moment.

Love to see him play this summer in the World Cup, but needs games.
