Mexicans in Europe Midweek Ed.

Euro ActionWe have a few of the boys playing in European competitions and they’re still in and hoping to go far. Here are the ones that played.

Carlos Salcido(PSV) I didn’t watch the game but the reports say that he didn’t have such a great game. His failure to clear the ball from the box following a goal kick from Fiorentina goalkeeper led to Fiorentina’s goal. Yes, it was a hard to clear but he should have been able to handle it. He also had many run ins with Giampaolo Pazzini giving many unnecessary free kicks. Despite the trouble he still played all 90 mins and PSV have come away with a crucial away goal and play at home on the 10th.

Rafael Marquez(Barcelona)- Marquez came in during the 73rd minute replacing Yaya Toure. Almost immediately he gave a free kick to Schalke. He didn’t do much but he did get book in extra time.

Giovanni Dos Santos(Barcelona)Giovanni went in for Samuel Eto’o in the 82nd minute. He didn’t contribute much and only played a few minutes with goalscoring Bojan. Gio too was booked in the 92nd minute after a challenge on Schalke’s Vicente Sanchez. But Barcelona got an away goal and were lucky not to concede throughout the whole game as Schalke had an open net many times only to unluckily miss it by a few inches. The return leg is set for next Wednesday at Camp Nou.
