Mexicans in Europe 4/5-6/08

Europe MapAnother week has gone by and it seems like all the players are made out of glass. Many were out injured and are hoping to return soon. Coming up this week: Barcelona hope to advance to the Semis of the Champions League, and PSV hope to do the same over in the UEFA Cup.

Spain

Rafa Marquez(Barcelona)- Marquez missed all of the 1st half but came on for the second to replace Milito. He didn’t do much until the 85th min in which he missed a sitter to put Barca up 1-0 but failed to do so. Besides that, he was pretty dead the whole game.

Giovanni Dos Santos(Barcelona)- Gio came on during the 2nd half for Eto’o. During the 51st min he had a great shot on goal but his left footed shot rebounded off the right post. Barcelona are still 3rd with 59 points but could have leapfrogged Villarreal if they had won.

Guillermo Franco(Villarreal)Villarreal lost 0-2 to Sevilla and failed to catch up to league leaders Real after their draw. Franco did not play because of injury and is still out for about 3 weeks.

Carlos Vela(Osasuna)-Osasuna lost 0-1 to fellow relegation battlers Recreativo Huelva. Osasuna could have used Vela’s help but he was unavailable due to a fifth yellow card picked up last weekend. Osasuna sit in 16th place on the La Liga table.

Andres Guardado(Deportivo La Coruna) Deportivo won 3-1 against Racing Santander and are now 12th in the table. Guardado is still out due to injury.

Germany

Aaron Galindo(Eintracht Frankfurt) Eintracht lost 1-3 to 1. FC Nurnberg and are 8th in the Bundesliga. Galindo did not play because of injury.

Pavel Pardo(Stuttgart)-Stuttgart won 1-0 against Hamburg different from the 4 goal bashing they received in the beginning of the season. Pardo had the assist on the only goal and he played all 90 mins.

Ricardo Osorio(Stuttgart)- Osorio played all 90 mins and suffered 3 fouls. Stuttgart are now 5th.

Holland

Carlos Salcido(PSV) Salcido’s team won 2-0 over Heracles Almelo and have consolidated their leadership in the Dutch league. He played all 90 mins with an improved performance from midweek. They seem to be concentrating on the upcoming match at home against Fiorentina and hope to advance all the way to the UEFA Cup finals.

Hector Moreno(AZ Alkmaar)AZ Alkmaar won 3-2 away against VVV-Venlo. They were down 1 in the 3rd min and had an og to thank for the equalizer. Moreno received a yellow card in the 63rd and commited 13 fouls during the game.

England

Nery Castillo(Man City) Man City lost 0-2 to title chasers Chelsea. Castillo did not play.

Turkey

Antonio De Nigris(Ankaraspor) Ankaraspor is 13th in the league with 33 points. De Nigris did not score in his teams 1-0 win over Istanbul BB.

Managers

Javier Aguirre(Atletico Madrid)- Aguirre led Atleti to a 6-3 win over 9 men Almeria. They are now 3 points ahead of Racing Santander who was below them on goal differential. They are in 4th with 53 points.

Next week I’ll try to incorporate the players’ stats for those who have asked for them

Isn’t it suspicious that all of our players that seem to be injured all the time play in the Spanish league? I mean, look at Barcelona itself, Messi, Eto’o, Ronaldinho, Marquez, Giovanni and Henry always seem to be injured! Does the Spanish league give players special pain killers or something that messes them up in the long run (like Beckham when he was at Real Madrid?)? I don’t think the English, Italian, German, or Dutch league have the same problems where the stars of each team always seem to be injured.

It does seem odd. But I think it happens all over. Its just that some players seem to be more injury prone. For example, I don’t think Arsenal have given Tomas Rosicky(out for the rest of season) or Robin Van Persie(Back after how long…?)special things that have caused this reaction. I know Arsenal isn’t in La Liga but its just an example.
