Mexicans in Europe 4/12-13/08
This week was too soon to let the balloons fall.
Spain
Rafa Marquez(Barcelona)-Did not play due to injury. However, knowing what the word “injury” means at Camp Nou…we’ll see if Marquez is still there next season.
Giovanni Dos Santos(Barcelona)- Gio started and quite well. He provided the assist to Eto’o’s goal in the 2nd min. He had his own shot saved in injury time of the first half. He played 65 mins before he was replaced by Messi. Barcelona are now 2nd and 9 pts behind Real Madrid.
Guillermo Franco(Villarreal)-Villarreal lost 0-1 to Almeria while Franco had nine minutes of play coming on during the 81st min. His notable contribution was his attempt to clear the ball from the line that gave the win to Almeria.
Carlos Vela(Osasuna)-Osasuna won 1-0 against Espanyol. Vela played 71 mins and had a very good chance on goal but he shot his ball wide. Osasuna is 14th in the league and seem to be safe from relegation.
Andres Guardado(Deportivo La Coruna) Deportivo won 3-0 against Athletic Bilbao. Guardado is injured and did not play. He’s currently back in Mexico in rehabilitation.
Germany
Aaron Galindo(Eintracht Frankfurt) Eintracht lost 1-2 to Hannover. Galindo came back from injury to play all 90 mins. Frankfurt now has 42 pts and could be challenging for a UEFA Cup spot.
Pavel Pardo(Stuttgart)-Stuttgart lost 0-3 to Bayern Leverkusen while Pardo played all 90 mins. The team is in contention for a UEFA Cup spot being 2 points away from the 5th spot in the Bundesliga table.
Ricardo Osorio(Stuttgart)- Osorio did not play due to injury but he returned to training with the team on Thursday.
Holland
Carlos Salcido(PSV)-Salcido’s PSV tied 1-1 against Twente. Whether they win the title because of this game remains to be seen since Ajax’s game was canceled due to fire in the stands. The balloons remained on hold for the festivities.
Hector Moreno(AZ Alkmaar)-Moreno played all 90 mins during the 1-1 draw against Excelsior. He also had a good shot cleared.
England
Nery Castillo(Man City)- Man City won 2-1 against Sunderland. Nery didn’t play.
Turkey
Antonio De Nigris(Ankaraspor)- Ankaraspor
Managers
Javier Aguirre(Atletico Madrid)- Aguirre led Atleti to a 1-1 draw against Vallalodid. They’re still 4th and 1 pt ahead of Racing Santander.
