Lavolpe & Lozano clear the air

March 8th, 2006 | By: John | No Comments »

Jimmy Lozano and Ricardo Lavolpe seemed to have a nice chat recently. At a press conference last week, Lavolpe expressed his doubts about Lozano’s place in Germany. Sometime after Lavolpe made those comments, he and Jimmy had a talk. Did they kiss and make up?
Lozano explained to Lavolpe that his lack of playing time is not because he is out of form; he is just following the orders of his club manager, Tuca Ferretti. Lozano appreciated the fact that Lavolpe let him speak freely, they cleared up whatever misunderstanding there was, and now Jimmy is back on the radar screen.
Throughout Lavolpe’s tenure as coach, he has looked at a heap of players at every position to ultimately fill the squad. Left midfielders have come and gone, and no player has shown as much versatility on the left as Jimmy. Lozano brings an embarrassment of talent to one of the key positions in Lavolpe’s scheme: he’s highly skilled on free kicks, he runs up and down the left flank tirelessly, and he is unselfish. Look for a March 29 call up for Lozano vs. Paraguay.

Other news:
All three Mexican teams are in action this week in the Libertadores. Guadalajara let a good opportunity slide by with a home tie vs. Caracas last night. Lozano’s team, Tigres, take on Brazilian giants Corinthians in Monterrey, and UNAM host Internacional over in CU. The (yawn) CONCACAF Champions cup also resumes play with Toluca and America looking to advance in their 2nd leg ties tonight.
