Guardado has sights on Europe

May 25th, 2006 | By: John | 11 Comments »

As the youngest player on the 23-man roster, Andres Guardado is absorbing as much as he can from his first of what we hope are many world cup experiences. He is learning from the coaches, and the players, and form himself. He knows that if he has a good showing in Germany, his future may well include an extended stay in the Old Country.

He has all the attributes that European clubs crave: skills, smarts, and youth. He has already received interest from several Italian clubs. One of his few drawbacks is that since he plays for a Mexican side, they have a history of grossly over-inflating transfer fees to European clubs. And a the same time, they charge their domestic counterparts much less. It happened to Ramon Ramirez in the late 90’s.

Guardado has been included on the watch list for the first Best Young Player award with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Leonel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo. For the past few friendlies, Guardado has given us a tantalyzing tease of his potential. But as our resident sports philosopher here in Austin, Darrell Royal, says: Potential means you ain’t done nothing yet. So for the player who is faster than small town gossip, and smoother than smoke through a keyhole, will he be ready when preparation meets opportunity?

I can’t wait to see this kid play in the Cup. He has all the attributes that should take him to the top.
Viva Mexico!

ps
Any paisanos living in the Boston area that will be getting together to watch the cup? Any info would be appreciated. Also any names of bars/restaurants that will be showing it would be great as well!

Guardado if he is smart will stay in Europe no matter what.

Marquez was smart to go to France and Monaco and he took some criticism for it because it was not a well known club in Mexico. It turned out well.

Who can forget that great Atlas generation of Marquez and all except Marquez never reached their potential.

Yeah Guardado shouldn’t be expecting Man U,Milan or Barca to be knocking at his door but he should follow Torrado’s and Marquez path starting with a “small” team he is young and if he develops in the future then everyone will be fighting for our golden boy!!! man I see a bright future for our team

I have to agree, if Guardado wants to play in Europe like Rafa, then the WC being in Germany is going to work out perfectly for him. However, he needs to play a really good game. Perhaps he may even stay and play for a German club; that is, unless he is scared of learning Deutcshe.

Well, while you guys talk about Guardado, it is now a given that Memo Ochoa will NOT return to Mexico.

He will either play for Recreativo Huelva (team that moast likely will play in the first division in Spain next year) or Racing de Santander.

It is such a given, that he has already cleaned his locker room in America, said goodbye to all the players there, broke off with his girlfriend and America is now looking to get Jose de Jesus Corona since Tecos has him in the transfer list.

Aparently, negotionations between Oswaldo Sanchez and Atlético de Madrid are going on, and there is a high possibility he will be playing for Los Colchoneros next season.

Aguirre always wanted to have Mexicans in his team, and now has the money to pursue them!

Don’t worry Mexico fans will win the next World Cup because will have Carlos Vela, Giovani Dos Santos, Villaluz, Rafa, Salcido, mybe Claudio Suarez :) , Guardado, Omar, and our golie will be Oswaldo or “Memo” Ochoa
