Until they prove otherwise against Iran, Mexico’s midfield is the worst collectively to represent them in a World Cup since 1978.

If you have spare time just compare the players from each squad.

After 4 years of preparation with one coach and one system this is alarming.

When they lost all those friendlies in 1994 and 1998 you knew they had a good shot at a decent showing because Ramon Ramirez and Beto Aspe were anchors who could play with anybody in the world. The same goes for Galindo in 94 and Blanco in 98′ and 02′.

Pardo is effective but not as offensive minded, the same goes for Torrado. Cabrito is still not in form and Sinha is a disaster.

Lavolpe gambled on Franco, the other naturalized player. He was supposed to be our #10. So far he is an ebarrasment to Blanco’s jersey and spends more time on the ground than even Blanco himself. Franco makes one have dreams of even Bofo wearing that #10.

The point is, after 4 years of preparation it seems that a success will not be a deep run into the tournament, that seems more like a miracle now. A success will be to qualify into the round of 16. Goals will be hard to come by.

Fonseca, cabrito, bravo, guardado, torrado..

all great MIDS…

it’s going to be just fine…

Blanco is a horrible sport, and not that great of a player.

he is so overrated.

Does anyone else think Guardado could be a starter? I think Guardado gives another dimension to the game. Ramon seems to be running out of juice; but he can still take the free kicks and convert them into goals. Guardado did also contribute to the goal scored by Bravo. Que piensan?

Big baller = Chicken Little.

I would have loved to see your posts during the pre world cup matches of 1998.

You probably would have asked to have Lapuente hanged by the balls.

If the Confederations Cup and the previous World Cups are indicators, Pardo, Torrado, Arellano, Ramon Morales are good international players. You can´t evaluate Franco or Sinha on friendlies. When they were required to produce during MATCHES THAT MATTERED, they did OK. Also, keep in mind Lavolpe has been putting Franco in completely different positions in each of the friendlies.

You seriously need to calm down. Blanco is now a has been and Bofo is a never was with the flair for the theatrics and with the mental maturity of a 5 year old (I apologize to all the 5 year olds out there in advance for such a comparison, I know you deserve better).

@rene

right on man, that’s gotta be ont the most intelegent post in a while.

to all who still have doubt on this team please shut up. I’m tired od reading all these dumb post!!! THIS IS OUR TEAM, YOU CAN’T CHANGE IT… also evey world cup team as far as i remeber the media and fans acted this same way. Doubting the coach and saying ” i dont’t know about this time around, they are not as good as the previous years” please, when are we going to say that we have the best team ever. Brazil still has doubts about their superstars. so no more complaining please.

I think we have a great team. infact I know we are going to go far.

people keep trying to compare this team to previous teams. Sure 86 had a great team, but i rememeber people were skeptical about that team because they never played together. IN 94,we had no superstars, luis garcia was good, and garcia aspe was great, but no one to be called AWESOME.. in 98, blanco was a no body, unitl his little dumb move and his lucky goal, he was given to much credit. El matador was good, but again no superstar. see the trend, we always have solid players, and only AFTER the World Cup are they considered to be great….

this year, we have very talented players, no wannabee superstars, Borguetti could act like one, but he is calm, Rafa, very intelegent now days. like i said before, i’m happy with our players. W are going to do great.

@davizhino
i think he could be a key player in a game also, but starting might be a little early. HE was playing againts a bad defensem his smart play on that play resulted in the goal, but if you look, the defenders screwed up big time. I think la volpe will use him againt angola. he is fast and has smart pasess.

anyway, 6 days away boys. No more games to critique, no more la volpe “i hate you” blogs, no more i want blanco back…
just MEXICO in the world cup. Rememember two years ago whe you said.. Oh i can’t wait. Lets enjoy it friends, lets keep the love alive and support EL TRI..

I concurr…

At least the University team didn’t score any goals. You win matches by scoring and not allowing, and it seems the back has been holding on well lately. Want to know what scary is? Ecuador barely beat an amateur side, 4:3, I mean, they allowed them to score three times! And this by South America’s 3rd best team…

About the Iran game, I’m very confident Mexico will win it. Iran does have the capacity to score goals, but so does France and they only managed one, and Netherland’s two goals came when the team was disorganized due to so mane changes, which won’t happen in the WC anyways. So Iran won’t have many chances to score, and it will come down to Mexico’s ability to do so. Judging from what they showed against Croatia and Bosnia, Mexico should be able to figure it out, specially with all of Lavolpe’s spies already having studied the team for 6 months :) . Mexico should win it, by two goals, 2-0 or 3-1 if Iran gets lucky.

Yeah there is no real need to panic I think El Tri will do alright. We have one of the strongest defenses in the whole tournament and Osvaldo is pretty good too(I really hope he stays in Europe)and we have Torrado and Pardo with World Cup experience.
There was no need to show all our weapons in friendlies and we played strong teams at their stadiums showing that we can keep up.
So Iran beware……..
Vamos Mexico!!!

This just occurred to me…

What if…

Lavolpe is deliberately telling the forwards to play badly so that Mexico’s opponents believe Mexico hasn’t got much up-front, and therefore start their games with a weak defense. With Mexico’s solid defense, they should be able to whitstand any kind of attack Iran and Angola throw at them, and since they should’ve underestimated Mexico’s attack, then they would have left their defenses weak, ready for Mexico’s apparently non-existent attack to make it’s grandious appearance. By the time the opposition realizes this mistake they would already be 3 goals behind and it would be to late to try to make ammends, making the only possible option to keep attacking, which would leave even more space behind for Mexico to increase their lead.

Then again, this strategy would only work for one or maybe two games, and Lavolpe would have to think something else for the second round opposition.

Just a crazy thought… Hope nobody of the opposition is reading this if it is the case, or at least that they don’t think I’m right.

Gus, I’m not too sure if Lavolpe is that crazy..but who knows. On another note, it was nice seeing the goalies get some playing time. They need to be ready to go at any moment. Kikin; what can I say, the guy scored a nice goal. I like how he can hold the ball, hes not a weak fella, and his natural intuition to score will be a great plus for the team. Once Guille gets going, (because I have faith he will get back into rhythm), the offense should be solid. I Like this team.

VAMOS MEXICO!
