Fonseca Man of the Match
Even in a loss, Kikin Fonseca impressed the FIFA technical study group enough to be named man of the match. If this isn’t enough to convince La Volpe that his place in the starting line up is indisputable.
We have said it here many times: Kikin has the biggest heart, and he plays “al mil porciento.”

Out of all the millions of reasons to despise Lavolpe and call for his head when he comes home this has to be the biggest one.
To leave this man on the bench, and relegate him to a bit role, is disturbing and almost ruined the team chemistry.

Congrats on advancing. Unfortunately, you will be beaten soundly by Argentina or Holland. Either one.

I am very disappointed on my national team. I expected so much more, but no; back to the same old shit, failure….I will have 0 confidence on my national team, until I see reason to believe different. I just don’t know what to say anymore, and I did not get offended when someone from Argentina said they rather play us than Portugal. Can you blame him? So, I’m behind ‘mi querido’ Mexico 110%, hoping for the best, and expecting the worst.

UC, you are unfortunately right.

I agree with you Marco. As I already pointed out on another thread, I am sick and tired of defending this team. I’ve been in Boston almost all of my life and grew up being a Red Sox fan and Boston fans went through the same shit…always backing their team but always waiting for the worst until the finally Sox won. This team can never get over the hump…maybe it never will but one can only hope that the U-17 will change things for Mexico in the future.

Well think of it this way…the kids of U-17 will eventually be with the “tri” in the next world cup in Africa. Hope they do a good joob in the next 4 years.

Of course a player from the Chivas had to miss the goal. Mexico is like the Chicago Cubs. Almost there but not enough. Mexico like the mavs had chance after chance to capitalize and never did. I do not want to face Argentina… They are too powerful.

I’m glad they advanced. I still think their best soccer is ahead of them. Borgetti will hopefully get back, that with Kikin and Bravo is a solid combination that will produce goals.
Can we all please wait ’till after they’re done playing before we bury them?
Bring on Argentina, we can beat them.

I think the team looked more offensive minded today as evidenced by their 15 shots on net. Bravo should have buried the penalty and the one on one with the keeper. Fonseca looked great as he scored and was a real threat the whole match. The best thing about him is he takes on defenders whereas the rest of the team is looking to pass. I know we play possession football but sooner or later in a game a one on one situation can be that game breaker for the team. Certainly not Marquez’ best game but lets face it the guy is 23 yrs old and has had to carry the team on his back since the tourney started. He is a rock and will bounce back. My worry is that LaVolpe reverts back and goes with Franco for the next game. The frontline has to be Borgetti and Fonseca with Bravo tucked behind them. Pardo in the midfield continues to be a real concern. He seems really nervous and loses the ball too easily. Marquez cannot move up as the defense need him. Somebody is gonna have to have a hell of a game in midfield next game. Both Torrado and Pardo are struggling with form and we will need a better game from both. Somebody is going to have to be a Riquelme next game and distribute the ball. I have faith that they are going to regain form and give Argentina or holland a run for their money. VIVA MEXICO!!!

Unfortunately Mexico still doesn’t have his act ready. Blame anyone for it. I’m amazed at the horrible job done by Marquez and Bravo (they sucked). And to think that a star from Barcelona’s team could make a difference. No doubt the only man that really gave all in the game was Kikin, but soccer is more than one man. One that I just can’t figure out as hard as I try is LaVolpe. This man really doesn’t come up with the right strategy and always waits ’til the last minute to come up with one.
Mexico won’t be able to defeat Argentina or Holland if they keep playing like today. And I think is already to late to work on their strengths.
Let’s see in 4 yrs.

Funny how after Iran´s match everyone got on the jollybus to praise Omar Bravo… all I heard was omar this omar that… now that Kikin scores its Kikin this Kikin that… real fans get behind their team/player in the good days and the bad days.

Sorry to disapoint you B, but who said I was a real fan of the Mexican team?

I think that game went pretty well but I wish that instead of Borgetti they had played Bravo, as Borgetti was acting like a ball hog tring to prove himself after his last injury, and instead made a mochery of himself by scoring an auto-gol. They showed their strength against Argentina, and it was satisfying enough.

woah, mockery, not mochery

the potential and quality were definetely evident against argentina. the reality is what we all saw: without the auto-gol (courtesy of borgetti) Argentina should have lost the match. they were overwhelmed by mexico (because of early goal) and riquelme looked tired and confused. Argentina like the rest of the arrongant euros act like the world is theirs and we all just happen to live in it. Argentina was exposed and its no surprise to see them cry and whine when losing to germany.

Just to make this short, I truely believe that the mexican national team will perform better when Pumas de la Universidad Autonoma de Mexico starts to bring youngsters to the team and acts like optionms and opportunities for the national team. Another team is Atlas, example Guardado, this guy is amazing. I love my country , I love Futbol and mexicans, something I admire is that we are always there to support el “tri” no matter wehere they are even if we have 5 pesos in our pockets we are there making ourselves presents and the world enjoys that because no other nation has that warmth like us. Lets have faith like we always have … Viva mexico, venga Pumas. 2010 putitas!!!

Just to make this short… I definetly agree with kikin from Canada.. Mexicans are always there to cheer our National Team, no matter what, no matter where, no matter anything. We all love “El Tri” above everything else. Mexico Champion for 2010. Be there to be witness of it. And remember Cuautla will go to primera again for 2009!!!!!
