Drama at the end of the France Friendly

May 24th, 2006 | By: John | 2 Comments »

It doesn’t really matter whether Mexico wins or loses Saturday night in the Stade de France. It’s a friendly. The drama might happen after the match as Mexican players position themselves…to trade shirts with Zinedine Zidane when the match is over.

Andres Guardado wants the shirt. Badly. “My dream is to go up against France and play well, then trade shirts with Zidane.” He is not the only one with designs on getting the shirt, though. Gonzalo Pineda and Kikin Fonseca also have a profound admiration for Zizou. But Guardado seems to be the most anxious to get the shirt. “On top of being able to play against him, I hope to beat my teammates to the punch and trade shirts with him.”

Well… they could also have a post-it with their name and address at hand so he can send them one later on, I guess.

If I were in El Tri, I would try my best to impress them so that it is THEM fighting for MY shirt instead.

Usually these things are decided before the game amongst the players themselves. If Zidane respects anybody on the Mexican team, it is Rafa, in fact that might be the only Mexican player he has ever met.
