Don’t Panic

I have thought for a while now that Mexico have been over-rated. Their attack looks as if it disorriented and their defense is inconsistent. Mexico is not my team but I still follow their play.

I do still believe that Iran and Portugal will beat Mexico in qualifying (in fact I have money on it) which means that Mexico will not advance to the knock-out phase.

I do commend mexico for scheduling such tough opponents in the warm-ups. Maybe this will better prepare them for the real thing.

I think Beto at least made one good statement, Mexico should be commended for sheduling two very strong teams. Nothing better for improvement than plays stong (or stonger?) teams than you and it also proves a useful measuring stick. I’m not really worried about Iran nor even Portugal, but Mexico worries me all by themselves. But everything you said is right John… the only thing nagging at me is the offense. I dont think players like to lose without at least making a few more attempts than a measly three shots on goal in three games. No doubt, Mexico will advance, gain confidence in that, and definitely improve into the next rounds.

It is sad when an opponent gives you more credit than your local press:

Finalmente negó que el equipo mexicano haya sido predecible y mucho menos un adversario sencillo, “no lo creo, tiene muchas variantes. Juegan muy bien al futbol. Además Borgetti es un jugador muy fuerte y peligroso, pero para mi gusto, el mejor jugador mexicano es Rafael Márquez”.

El técnico del Pachuca prefirió aportar su granito de arena en un positivo afán de mejorarle el panorama a la Selección Mexicana, a unos cuantos días de que dé inicio el Mundial de Alemania.

De entrada y a diferencia de lo que piensa la mayoría, en el sentido de que Lavolpe aún no está muy seguro de algunos de sus hombres para el cuadro titular, indicó que la razón de los seis cambios que realizó el técnico del Tricolor en su cotejo de este jueves, ante Holanda, pudo haber sido porque “es importante que los jugadores acumulen minutos, para que cuando entren a la competencia real, todos estén ya más o menos en el mismo tenor”.

Aunque, destacó que ante los holandeses se hizo un buen primer tiempo, no así en el segundo, “pero no es que los que entraron en el segundo tiempo lo hayan hecho mal, sino porque es muy difícil que con tantos cambios, México pudiera seguir manteniendo la misma forma de jugar”.

De una manera general, ¿qué opina del Tricolor a estas alturas?
“Pues, será que el técnico tiene sus dudas, puede ser que éstas sean razonables. Vamos a pensar que siempre jugara el mismo equipo, ya definido su cuadro titular; los otros no han acumulado minutos. Por ejemplo, no han acumulado minutos en este último período los dos porteros suplentes, pero creo que lo que ya deberíamos hacer todos es acompañar la fe que les tenemos, con un poco de silencio, de respeto para el juego”.

Sobre el caso concreto de Jared Borgetti, quien hizo este jueves el único tanto de los mexicanos y que viene de no tener actividad con el Bolton de Inglaterra, comentó: “Sí, Jared no ha jugado y eso tiene un precio, pero ahora por eso está acumulando minutos. Pero ya tiene un Mundial, ya tiene una carrera donde de sobra su capacidad ha sido probada. Entonces, ya nada más es cuestión de que se sepa quiénes van a ser los titulares, que yo creo que ellos ya lo saben, y van a rendir mejor. Seguro estoy de eso”.

The only coach so far that has been really negative has been Nacho Trelles, and that guy always says the same thing regardless of the coach… (I wonder why they even interview him, the could just copy and paste previous interviews about previous national team coaches).

Portugal is another story, when we beat iran and angola, Portugal will need game 3 a lot more than we will.

Mexico has good fans indeed, very optimistic and almost over confident.

At some point we can evaluate the results whatever they may be.

The majority of Mexican fans are outraged that a schizophrenic coach is leading this team, at some point the results will speak for themselves.

Make no mistake about it, Lavolpe will be motivated to do well because this will be his last month as coach. Win lose or draw, Mexico has an enormously bright future.

Quality difference in football has decreased significantly. On paper, Mexico should go 1st, Portugal 2nd, but to be honest, Iran stand a good chance…….Angola will kill to beat Portugal (hate of colony-metropoli)…..so both Mexico and Portugal could get good upsets if they underestimate the rivals, which are by no means weak!
