Cola wars, and a Presidential Pep talk

May 10th, 2006 | By: John | No Comments »

I didn’t want to mention anything about the cola wars because I thought it was a legitimate non story. Well, Ricardo La Volpe backed me up. A little background: Coca Cola, and Pepsi both got their knickers in a knot in regard to contracts, representation, endorsements regarding the coach. There were reports that he was going to resign. Ridiculous. “We have worked on this project for four years. Do you think I am resigning? No way!” The issue was quelled. Can we move on?

Jared Borgetti will not play Friday vs. the Congo. He reports to the team on Monday. No word yet on the official dates for Rafa and Guille.

Mexican President Vicente Fox presented the flag to the team yesterday. He gave the flag to Oswaldo Sanchez, and then addressed the team. Pavel Pardo responded with “Esta selección se compromete con todos los mexicanos a morirse en la raya, a dar su mejor y mayor esfuerzo dentro y fuera de la cancha, a actuar con mentalidad triunfadora y liderazgo.”

One month to go. Don’t forget to call your mothers.
