Chivas, Tigres, and Pumas, oh my!
Guadalajara vaulted into first place in their group with a come from behind 2-1 win over current World Club champion Sao Paulo of Brazil. Bofo Bautista scoired the equalizer and Omar Bravo put in the game winner with yet another header (how does the little guy do it?).
This win is significant not only because Mexican teams usually don’t fare very well against Brazilian opposition, but also because it will be the last Libertadores game Guadalajara will play at full strength until after the world cup. The next Libertadores fixture for Chivas is April 5, two days after the local teams are set to release their national team players for world cup training. Chivas are petitioning the Femexfut for an extension, though.
In related Libertadores news, Tigres are in Brazil to take on Corinthians. Tigres currently sit in 2nd place with 6 points after 3 matches in group 4. Pumas have yet to earn a point in group 6, and their chances of doing so tonight vs. Internacional in Porto Allegre are slim.
