Borgetti hopes to play vs. Paraguay
In an effort to log minutes he probably won’t be getting with Bolton Wanderers, Jared Borgetti is looking to get permission to travel to Chicago and suit up to play vs. the Guarani. Will he get the permission? Probably not. Is his lack of playing time going to cost him a spot among the starting XI? Probably.
Jared only played 7 minutes in Bolton’s extra-time FA Cup replay loss vs. West Ham United yesterday. The most telling sign of where he stands with coach Big Sam Allardyce is the fact that there were 3 forwards on the bench, and Jared was the one that came on last.
The Mexican striker is taking his current inactivity in stride, though. “ I am not worried about not playing anymore.” He added, “I just have to make the most of the little playing time I do get. I haven’t resigned myself to this fate; I’m just cognizant of the things that have happened which I obviously cannot change.”
Borgetti was hoping to team up with Guille Franco in Chicago, but that will not happen because Franco’s club, Villareal, has a Champion’s League tie with Inter that very same day.
I have been following Borgetti’s plight at Bolton all year, and it appears to me that he has betting getting a raw deal all along. If Bolton are going to keep him inactive for the majority of the season, then the FMF should pick up his salary and let him come back to Mexico when World Cup training starts in mid-April. If he stays in Bolton until May, then Lavolpe should consider pairing Franco with Kikin Fonseca, who is the leading goal scorer in the Clausura. And for a Mexican to do that in a league that is overrun by foreigners, it speaks for itself. Franco and Fonseca looked great in Mexico’s 5-2 romp over Guatemala last October. Franco scored once, and Kikin scored 4 times – 2 on assists from Franco.
