Blanco: He’s back!

January 26th, 2006 | By: Surge | No Comments »

Soaked and discolored banners were displayed on the sidelines of old Candlestick park, in San Francisco home of the 49ers, where Mexican fans came from all over to see “The pride of Tepito” wearing green once again, banners of pride and relief, that number 10 was called to take part in this friendly against Norway.

In a game that was anything but normal for El tri where rain poured all game long and left the field muddy enough to leave the ref on his back side more than once.

The game started a bit sluggish due to the conditions but Norway wasted no time and Ole Martin Arst scored the first goal of the game on a break away in the early minutes.

Workhorse Kikin Fonseca, who scored off a volley in minute 37’, tied the game, But Mexico got the win with 3 minutes to go, on a beautiful goal from Luis Ernesto Perez

Blanco felt pretty much absent for the first half, had a few missed passes, but as soon as the second half began, the #10 that we all know and love showed up with a new face, and reminded all of us why he belongs in Lavolpe’s list, showing crisp passes, trick backheels, and a header of a corner kick that the keeper just pushed out of the box, it seemed like he never left.

Mexicans chanted his name, the constant horns and rattles echoed the Old Candlestick, El tri won again, and yes…he was back!
