Back Mexico up! Angola Vs. Mexico

May 3rd, 2006 | By: Luis Carlos | 4 Comments »

I think we have to be clear on a few pointers here. There is a post on the Angola blog titled: “Angola sends a warning to World Cup Foes”, in wich Pasha, our good friend, explains why Mexico is having a nightmare and a hard time thinking in their rivals the Palancas Negras.

I know Angola has a lot of fans (Bob, mhm), but still I don’t think the reasons explained in the post has Mexicans fans without sleep. I actually replied the post, giving them some things to think about.

The response I got, was actually a great one by Kiko, saying that it is good that Mexico underestimates Angola, and that will make easier their victory against “El Tri”.

I know we won’t know untill we play Angola, but that’s the great thing about blogs, we can write whatever we want then just lay down and hide for 4 more years after we come out of the darkness and keep talking about our predictions.

So, I have a few questions I must ask our reeders, and I would love if Pasha could give us his point of view:

1. Do we underestimate Angola?
2. Should we?
3. Is Angola the weakest team in the World Cup? if not who is it?
4. Do we have what it takes now, to asure a victory over Angola in Germany?

Like I said, we won’t know untill we play, but what are your opinions about the Mexico Vs. Angola game?

P.d. Recicle!

1. No we don’t. Actually we sent one of our coaches (Paco Ramirez) to the African cup, and he gave one magazine a very detailed explanation of which players were key, their preferred formation and what Mexico needed to do to counter their speed and physical presence.

I think Mexico is well aware of how they could hurt El Tri and how to counter them.

2. We shouldn’t. There is no small enemy these days, but from every report, Mexican or otherwise, I get the feeling they are not the strongest African side.

3. Not by a longshot… Trinidad and Tobago is just one of several teams I think will have a harder time making things happen.

4. I think so. We have had several people who have been playing for Lavolpe for a while now, we have a more competitive league, play against good teams in Copas Libertadores, America and Confederations and have the chance to have most of the players training two months ahead. We have also several players with World Cup experience. But you never know… just ask France 4 years ago.

[...] It is great to see this friendly, yet competitive dialogue! You know I posted that as a bit of joke because we all know that Mauritus and Lesotho aren’t in the same class as Portugal and Mexico. But still, I am proud that our team played so well especially since they were mostly our domestic players playing. As for Luis Carlos’ very good questions: [...]

Rene:

Nice Answers, I agree with you.

Do you think France was overrated 4 years ago?

Will the Congo game be important, because we could see what we could face against Angola?

I don’t think France was overrated. I think they arrived at a low point physically and mentally. It didn’t help that Zidane was playing hurt either.

The Congo game will help, definitely, but I have to wonder if the styles are that similar. I would think that because of Portuguese influence, their style is a little less agressive and more stylized.
